Background: Currently there is no way to determine if archived cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens have been properly handled and can be considered suitable for research purposes. Transthyretin (TTR) is abundant in CSF and undergoes a redox reaction that shifts its native proteoform into an S-cysteinylated form. This reaction proceeds spontaneously ex vivo when CSF is thawed, but ceases at storage temperatures of -80°C.

The management of patients with facial asymmetry caused by condylar hyperplasia remains a subject of ongoing debate. This study compared active patients with unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) who underwent proportional condylectomy with ceased patients with UCH who underwent orthognathic surgery, evaluating esthetics, function, and satisfaction. The retrospective study included 2 groups: group A, with 15 active patients with UCH who underwent proportional condylectomy, and group B, with 22 ceased patients with UCH who underwent orthognathic surgery.

Flow cessation leads to severe degradation of river corridor landscape structure, habitat quality, and ecological functions. This study focuses on the representative river with ceased flow in northern China, the Yongding River plain section. Utilizing long-term, high-resolution satellite remote sensing imagery and the InVEST model, we analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution of landscape structure and habitat quality (HQ) before and after river corridor flow cessation over the past 50 years.

We argue that this reveals a positivist perspective that is incompatible with qualitative research,1 which is instead based on constructivist, interpretivist, or other perspectives. Instead, we recommended the concepts of information power,2conceptual depth,3 and theoretical sufficiency,1,4,5 with data adequacy considered during research design and evaluated iteratively throughout the sampling, data collection, and analysis processes.

The gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons represent the key output cells of the neural network controlling mammalian fertility. We used GCaMP fiber photometry to record the population activity of the GnRH neuron distal projections in the ventral arcuate nucleus where they merge before entering the median eminence to release GnRH into the portal vasculature. Recordings in freely behaving intact male and female mice revealed abrupt ~8 min duration increases in activity that correlated perfectly with the appearance of a subsequent pulse of luteinizing hormone (LH).
