Fast visible imaging of the lower divertor from above is used to study the structure and dynamics of lobes induced by resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) in Edge-Localized Mode (ELM) suppression experiments in DIII-D. The best compromise between the amount of light and sharp imaging was obtained using emission at 601 nm from Fulcher band molecular deuterium. Multiple spatially resolved peaks in the D emission, taken as a proxy for the particle flux, are readily resolved during RMPs, in contrast to the heat flux measured by infrared cameras, which shows little spatial structure in ITER-like conditions. The 25 mm objective lens provides high spatial resolution (2-4 mm/pixel) from the centerpost to the outer shelf over 40° toroidally that overlaps the field of view of the IRTV that measures the divertor heat flux, allowing direct comparison in non-axisymmetric discharges. The image is coupled to a Phantom 7.3 camera using a Schott wound fiber bundle, providing high temporal resolution that allows the lobe dynamics to be resolved between ELMs and across ELM suppression onset. These measurements are used to study the heat and particle flux in 3D magnetic fields and to validate models for the plasma response to RMPs.

: Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) are commonly used by former smokers as an alternative product to conventional cigarettes and also by young adults and adolescents to deliver nicotine. E-cigarettes are thought to be a less harmful and more socially acceptable alternative to tobacco smoking; however, their long-term effects on health, including oral health, are currently unknown. : A literature search for relevant papers indexed in the literature from 2016 to 2023 was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases.

Background: Pre-clinical cancer studies ascribe promising anticancer properties to metformin. Yet, clinical findings vary, casting uncertainty on its therapeutic value for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. We hypothesized that metformin could benefit obese and overweight patients with NSCLC.

Lead (Pb) is a toxic stressor in the soil, which affects plant morphological and physiological events differently. A pot study was initiated to characterize the effect of calcium (Ca) application (20 and 40 mM) on Ulmus umbraculifera L. under Pb treatment (200 and 400 µM).

Based on tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy and off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy, a dual-range methane hybrid sensor was constructed utilizing the overtone absorption band of CH gas molecules at 1653.7 nm. By simultaneously utilizing an off-axis integrated cavity and Herriott cell with an effective absorption path of 11 and 405 m, respectively, the two received photoelectric signals are decomposed into different frequency components by VMD and then reconstructed after SG filtering.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers found that while a type of cancer treatment called PARP inhibitors (PARPi) works well for some ovarian cancer cells, it doesn’t work as well for others.
  • They say that combining PARPi with another drug called ATM serine/threonine kinase inhibitor (ATMi) could help treat all types of these cancer cells better.
  • This combination therapy not only kills cancer cells more effectively but also reduces some of the side effects from using PARPi alone.
