NURBS curve shape prior-guided multiscale attention network for automatic segmentation of the inferior alveolar nerve.

Comput Med Imaging Graph

January 2025

Institute of Biomedical Manufacturing and Life Quality Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200240, China. Electronic address:

Accurate segmentation of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) within Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images is critical for the precise planning of oral and maxillofacial surgeries, especially to avoid IAN damage. Existing methods often fail due to the low contrast of the IAN and the presence of artifacts, which can cause segmentation discontinuities. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel approach that employs Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) curve shape priors into a multiscale attention network for the automatic segmentation of the IAN.

"As long as they remember me, I am alive": Commemoration and memory through stickers.

Death Stud

December 2024

The Louis and Gabi Weisfeld School of Social Work, Bar Ilan University, Israel.

This study explores the phenomenon of memorial stickers commemorating victims of the October 7, 2023, massacre and subsequent Israel-Hamas war. Analyzing 600 stickers collected across Israel, we examine how these artifacts shape personal and collective memory of these tragic events. Using content analysis, visual data analysis, and ethnography of texts, we investigate the stickers' distribution, textual content, and visual elements.

Health care images contain a variety of imaging information that has specific features, which can make it challenging to assess and decide on the methods necessitated to safeguard the highly classified visuals from unauthorized exposure during transmission in a communication channel. As a result, this proposed approach utilizes a variety of techniques that will enhance the quality of textual healthcare images, communicate information securely, and interpret textual data from healthcare visuals without difficulty. Natural interference, primarily on the receiver side, reduces text-based healthcare image contrast, and numerous artifacts and adjacent picture element values impede diagnosis.
