Caricatures highlight personal characteristics. The caricature drawing of the four prominent professors from the transition from the Royal Frederik's Hospital to Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen in 1910, shows the dominant surgeon Niels Thorkild Rovsing (1862-1927), who takes up half of the drawing; the reserved organizationally interested physician Knud Helge Faber (1862-1956) in the middle; the thoughtful surgeon Oscar Thorvald Bloch (1847-1926), and the somewhat isolated physician Hans Christian Joachim Gram (1853-1938), who became known for his staining method to separate Gram-positive from Gram-negative bacteria.

Oscar Samuel Hoffman (1856-1926) was the first Jewish physician to settle in Omaha, Nebraska in 1883. He taught dermatology for 25 years at the Omaha Medical College and University of Nebraska, after completing postgraduate work in Vienna under the noted dermatologist Moritz Kaposi (1837-1902). His expertise also included obstetrics, and he became the Professor of Obstetrics and Dermatology at Omaha Medical College.

This study provides updated estimates of global and regional vision loss due to URE, presenting temporal change for VISION 2020 METHODS: Data from population-based eye disease surveys from 1980-2018 were collected. Hierarchical models estimated prevalence (95% uncertainty intervals [UI]) of blindness (presenting visual acuity (VA) < 3/60) and moderate-to-severe vision impairment (MSVI; 3/60 ≤ presenting VA < 6/18) caused by URE, stratified by age, sex, region, and year.
