We herein present a novel and sustainable technology for mercury recycling, with the maximum observed uptake capacity. Facile synthesis of the most efficient (~1.9 gg) nano-trap, made of montmorillonite-Fe-iron oxides, was performed to instantaneously remove mercury(II) ions from water. Elemental Hg was recovered from the adduct, by employing Fe granules, at ambient conditions. Varied pHs and elevated temperatures further enhanced this already highly efficient recycling process. The reduction of Hg(II) to Hg(I) by the nano trap and Hg(I) to Hg(0) by Fe granules are the main driving forces behind the recycling process. Facile sustainable recycling of the nano-trap and Fe granules require no additional energy. We have further developed a recyclable model for Hg nano-trap, which is inexpensive (<$5 CAD), and can remove mercury in a few seconds. This technology has multiple applications, including in the communities exposed to mercury contamination.

Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) have gained increasing attention due to their robust mechanical properties, favorable biocompatibility, and facile surface modification. However, green and recyclable CNF production remains challenging. Herein, a green, low-cost and room-temperature strategy was developed to exfoliate CNFs using deep eutectic solvents.

A catalytic system has been developed, utilizing metal nanoparticles confined within a chitosan‑carbon black composite hydrogel (M-CH/CB), aimed at improving ease of use and recovery in catalytic processes. The M-CH/CBs were characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDX, the M-CH/CB system demonstrated exceptional catalytic activity in producing hydrogen gas (H) from water and methanol, and in reducing several hazardous materials including 2-nitrophenol (2-NP), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), 2,6-dinitrophenol (2,6-DNP), acridine orange (ArO), methyl orange (MO), congo red (CR), methylene blue (MB), and potassium ferricyanide (PFC). Among the tested nanocatalysts, CH/CB showed the highest efficiency for H₂ production, while Fe-CH/CB excelled in contaminant reduction (7.

Peroxyacetyl Nitrate (CHC(O)ONO, PAN), a typical secondary product of photochemical reactions, is well known to be a better photochemical indicator due to the only secondary photochemical source in the troposphere. Studies on PAN pollution are sparse in northwest China, resulting in a limited understanding of photochemical pollution in recent years. Herein, the measurement of PAN, O, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), NO, other related species, and meteorological parameters were conducted from May 1 to August 31, 2022, at an urban site in Lanzhou.

Copper-containing industrial wastewater, characterized by strong acidity, high ionic strength, and various competing metals, presents significant challenges for Cu(II) recovery. To address these issues, an electric field-enhanced ultrafiltration process was developed, assisted with a functional polyelectrolyte with high selectivity for Cu(II). The polyelectrolyte, termed PPEI, was synthesized by grafting picolyl groups onto polyethyleneimine (PEI), enhancing its affinity for Cu(II).

This study investigates the primary data collected at a used cooking oil (UCO) recycling facility to quantify its environmental impact when used as a rejuvenator in high content reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) mixes. Annual energy consumption data sets on transportation, storage, filtration, machinery, and purification are assessed using the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology with the LCA software Simapro 9.4 to evaluate the influential parameters and processes in reducing emissions.
