Together with borazine, ammonia borane is a prominent precursor molecule for the formation of hexagonal boron nitride, which is of high interest as a 2D-material and graphene analog. Ammonia borane is also a possible solid hydrogen carrier for renewable energies with high storage density. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption, we investigated low-temperature adsorption and dehydrogenation during heating of borazine and ammonia borane on Ni(111) to form h-BN. For borazine, we observe the formation of disordered boron nitride above 300 K, which starts to form hexagonal boron nitride above 600 K. Ammonia borane shows multiple dehydrogenation steps at the boron and nitrogen atoms up to 300 K. This results in various BHNH species, including borazine-like intermediates, before the formation of disordered boron nitride and finally hexagonal boron nitride, analogous to the borazine decomposition.

Melanoma, a highly aggressive skin cancer, poses significant challenges due to its rapid metastases and high mortality rates. While metformin (Met), a first-line medication for type 2 diabetes, has shown promise in inhibiting tumor growth and metastases, its clinical efficacy in cancer therapy is limited by low bioavailability, short half-life, and gastrointestinal adverse reactions associated with oral administration. In this study, we developed a hollow mesoporous polydopamine nanocomposite (HMPDA-PEG@Met@AB) coloaded with Met and ammonia borane (AB), designed to enable a combined gas-assisted, photothermal, and chemotherapeutic approach for melanoma treatment.

We report the rapid synthesis of primary amides by directly using commercially available ammonia borane (NH·BH), sodium hexamethyldisilazide (NaHMDS), and esters. The success of this protocol relies on NH·BH as the nitrogen source being considerably more convenient and NaHMDS being an excellent proton abstractor but not participating in the nucleophilic addition reaction. The reaction had a wide substrate scope containing bioactive molecules, and most of the substrates were efficiently amidated over 90% yields.

The utilization of hydrogen in safety conditions is crucial for the development of a hydrogen-based economy. Among all methodologies, solid-state hydrogen release from ammonia borane through thermal stimuli is very promising due to the high theoretical hydrogen release. Generally, carbonaceous or inorganic matrices have been used to tune the reactivity of ammonia borane.

Ammonia borane (NHBH, AB) is considered a promising chemical hydrogen storage material. The development of efficient, stable, and economical catalysts for AB hydrolysis is essential for realizing the hydrogen energy economy. In this study, a series of p-p heterojunction catalysts, labeled M (P/S/Cl)-CuCoO, were fabricated using the high-temperature vapor phase method to achieve anionic interface gradient doping.
