Halitosis can be described as unpleasant odors emanating from the oral cavity. It is usually associated with decomposition action of bacteria present mainly on the back of the tongue and periodontal pockets, and able to produce volatile sulfur compounds. We conducted a study at the Faculty of Dentistry, Federal University of Juiz de Fora and evaluated the therapeutic effect of two natural extracts, Camellia sinensis (green tea) and resveratrol in the form of oral polymer films, to control halitosis. Fifty volunteers (students of health courses) participated in the research after orientation and signing the informed consent form. The anamnesis was made by researchers. The physical examination was made to verify the inclusion criteria. Each participant received 45 polymeric films to be consumed in 15 days (3 films per day). Measurements of the volatile sulfur compound levels were performed using a halimeter in two stages: 1) before use and 2) 15 days after the first administration. Results showed a statistically significant reduction in volatile sulfur compound levels in 71.79% of the volunteers. We concluded that the compounded orodispersible films containing green tea and resveratrol demonstrated excellent results in reducing halitosis.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an metabolic product of tuna during the spoilage, and relationship between HS and tuna quality has not been specifically studied. This study detected changes in HS content, HS precursor substances, and related enzymes based on the formation pathway of HS. HS content increased of tuna resulted in significant increases in contents of cystathionine β-synthase, cystathionine γ-lyase, 3-mercapto pyruvate sulfotransferase, cysteine aminotransferase and methionine, while content of cysteine decreased which provided HS formation.

Biological acidification, efficient and low-cost biotechnology, is crucial in treating pharmaceutical, pesticide water, and petrochemical wastewater. Nitrobenzene is a typical organic pollutant in petrochemical wastewater with high toxicity and long persistence. However, its effect on hydrolysis acidification is yet to be fully elucidated.

Pyrite cinder could release more heat to improve he acid decomposition reaction of ilmenite, lower concentrations of sulfuric acid, increase the amount of TiO waste acid reused, reduce titanium gypsum emissions, and promote the green and sustainable development of TiO. Using pyrite cinder as strengthening activator, the continuous acid decomposition conditions for ilmenite were optimized by using response surface methodology based on Box-Behnken design method. The acid decomposition conditions such as acid ilmenite ratio, acid concentration and pyrite cinder dosage mainly affected the reaction temperature, reaction equilibrium, reaction velocity, volatilization degree of water and sulfuric acid, ultimately affecting the solidification degree of the products and reaction yields.

Background/objectives: Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs), extensively studied in terrestrial plants with global emissions around 1 PgC yr, are also produced by marine organisms. However, benthic species, especially seagrasses, are understudied despite their global distribution (177,000-600,000 km). This study aims to examine BVOC emissions from key Mediterranean seagrass species (, , , and ) in marine and coastal lagoon environments.

In the current century, air pollution is known as one of the most critical environmental problems and it is important to find the relations of air pollution and human health. Various air pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), can negatively affect women's fertility. An exhaustive electronic search was done from 2013 until July 2023 in PUBMED and The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials.
