Gold-Mercury-Platinum Alloy for Light-Enhanced Electrochemical Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Center for Experimental Chemistry Education of Shandong University, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shandong University, Jinan 250100, China.

In this study, a simple and easy synthesis strategy to realize the modification of AuHgPt nanoalloy materials on the surface of ITO glass at room temperature is presented. Gold nanoparticles as templates were obtained by electrochemical deposition, mercury was introduced as an intermediate to form an amalgam, and then a galvanic replacement reaction was utilized to successfully prepare gold-mercury-platinum (AuHgPt) nanoalloys. The obtained alloys were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques.

Evaluating the effect of amalgam fillings on caries detection in cone-beam computed tomography images.

Dent Res J (Isfahan)

September 2024

Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Implants Research Center, Dental Research Institute, School of Dentistry, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan, Iran.

Background: Dental caries stands as one of the most prevalent dental concerns, with early diagnosis being pivotal in clinical dentistry. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) emerges as a widely utilized modality for dental caries identification, owing to its significant advantages. However, there remains a considerable knowledge gap regarding the efficacy of CBCT scans in detecting dental caries.

Biothiols, characterized by thiol groups, exhibit remarkable affinity for certain metals, playing pivotal roles in intracellular and extracellular biological processes. Fluctuations in their levels profoundly impact overall physiological health. Despite the development of various probes for biothiol detection and quantification, their inability to monitor thiol-to-disulfide state transitions persists as a limitation.

Silver nanotriangles (AgNTs) were successfully synthesized as a colorimetric probe for selective and sensitive histidine detection in aqueous media within a 15-100 µM range and a detection limit of 330 nM using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The interaction of HgCl with AgNTs would lead to the formation of disk-shaped Ag/Hg amalgam as observed from the transmission electron images and X-ray diffraction patterns. Histidine prevents these structural and morphological changes and accordingly, the detection approach was developed based on the correlation between the histidine concentration and the in-plane dipole plasmon resonance (DPR) intensity.
