The six biogenic amines in sausage and cheese were analyzed by HPLC with UV detection after off-line derivatization with dansyl chloride, 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl chloride, benzoyl chloride and dabsyl chloride, respectively. The results showed that both the off-line 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl and dabsyl derivatization were not suitable for HPLC analysis of biogenic amines when batch injection was used because the derivatives were instable, whereas both the off-line dansyl and benzoyl derivatization were suitable for HPLC analysis of biogenic amines when batch injection was used, but the latter needed to maintain the derivatives at 4 °C to ensure that benzoylated tyramine was not degraded when waiting for the analysis. The off-line dansyl derivatization had an obvious advantage in the analysis of biogenic amines in sausage and cheese samples by HPLC combined with batch injection because the method has a wider linear range and higher sensitivity, accuracy, precision and stability of the derivatives.

We developed a reversed-phased high-performance liquid chromatographic method combining ultraviolet detection and integrated pulsed amperometric detection for the simultaneous quantification of dopamine, 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid, homovanillic acid, serotonin, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, norepinephrine and epinephrine. All target components were completely separated in a C18 column with isocratic elution of 5% acetonitrile solution containing 8 mM HClO4 and 0.20 mM 1-octanesulfonic acid as an ion pairing reagent.

Metanephrines (metanephrine [MN] and normetanephrine [NMN]) are O-methylated metabolites derived from the catecholamines, epinephrine, and norepinephrine, respectively. High concentrations of metanephrines have been observed in individuals with pheochromocytoma, a neuroendocrine tumor. Measurement of metanephrines in urine is used to screen for the tumor.

Molecular recognition and detection of small bioactive molecules, like neurotransmitters, remain a challenge for chemists, whereas nature found an elegant solution in form of protein receptors. Here, we introduce a concept of a dynamic artificial receptor that synergically combines molecular recognition with dynamic imine bond formation inside a lipid nanoreactor, inducing a fluorescence response. The designed supramolecular system combines a lipophilic recognition ligand derived from a boronic acid, a fluorescent aldehyde based on push-pull styryl pyridine and a phenol-based catalyst.

Objectives: A rising incidence of septic shock as well as recommendations for early vasopressor initiation has increased the number of patients eligible for norepinephrine (NE). Traditionally, NE has been administered through central lines, in intensive care units, due to the risk of extravasation in peripheral lines. The aim of the current study is to determine the rate of complications and patient outcomes when NE is administered through midline catheters (MCs) in intermediary care units (IMCUs).

Oxidation of dopamine can cause various side effects, which ultimately leads to cell death and contributes to Parkinson's disease (PD). To counteract dopamine oxidation, newly synthesized dopamine is quickly transported into vesicles via vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) for storage. VMAT2 expression is reduced in patients with PD, and studies have shown increased accumulation of dopamine oxidation byproducts and α-synuclein in animals with low VMAT2 expression.
