is the most prominent bacterium associated with foodborne disease and the majority of human infection cases are attributed to chicken. Rapid methods capable of determining the status of poultry products in a short time are needed in today's fast-paced food supply chain. In this study, we developed and evaluated an easy to perform, rapid and robust method for direct detection of in poultry carcasses based on loop-mediated isothermal DNA AMPlification (LAMP). The method does not require bacterial culture or DNA purification and generates results in just an hour. A total of 171 swabs from chicken and turkey slaughter houses were analyzed in parallel by both LAMP and conventional culture-based enumeration methods to evaluate the performance of the rapid method. was detected by LAMP in 100% of swabs with an enumeration result of ≥800 cfu/swab, and 98.6% (69 out of 70) of samples reported as negative by enumeration (≤10 cfu/swab) were also negative by LAMP. The method is also suitable for analysis of boot swabs from poultry houses, and therefore it represents a convenient screening tool that can be implemented on farm, at slaughter houses, processing plants or retail, to help with the control of contamination throughout the food supply chain. The inclusion of an internal amplification control prevents any potential false negative results due to DNA amplification inhibitors that might be present in the sample.

Background: The reformulation of commonly consumed foods towards less sugar, fat, and salt is an important public health strategy to improve food choices of consumers and thus address the high prevalence of overweight and obesity. Front-of-pack nutrition labels like the Nutri-Score may drive reformulation and support nutritionally favourable food choices. Breakfast cereals are of special interest in that they tend to be high in sugar and are relatively often targeted at children.

Changes in water, energy, and food (WEF) trade patterns may reshape water circulation patterns, leading to potential water supply and demand risks. Analysis of virtual water risk transmission characteristics and driving factors from the perspective of WEF trade is highly important for alleviating the risk of water shortages and promoting the efficient use of resources. In this paper, a set of methods for quantifying risk transmission values is constructed on the basis of China's interregional input-output model, and the key paths of interregional virtual water risk transmission caused by WEF trade are identified using innovative methods.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a crucial crop in tropics and subtropics, primarily cultivated for its tuber. However, its foliage is rich in protein and can supply essential elements for ruminants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the phytochemical compounds by Gas chromatography-MS (GC-MS) and the main phenolic by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) present in cassava foliage, along with the fermentation pattern using a semi-automated gas production (GP) system.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are markers of drug-resistant pathogens, monitoring them contributes to prevent resistance to drugs. The detection methods for ARGs including PCR and isothermal amplification are sensitive and selective. However, it may take several hours or cannot be used on spot.

The concept of 'resilience' is pervasive, permeating academic disciplines and political discourses. This paper considers (i) the construal of 'resilience' in the contexts of food insecurity and cost-of-living in governmental discourses in the United Kingdom (UK); (ii) to what extent the political representations are reflected in research funding calls of UK national funding bodies, thus showing possibility of shaping research agendas; and (iii) to what extent official uses of 'resilience' reflect lay understandings. We are combining a corpus-based discourse analysis of UK governmental discourses and research funding calls with a study of focus group discussions.
