Cancer-specific utility instrument for health economic evaluations: A synopsis of the EORTC QLU-C10D user manual and current validity evidence.

The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Utility - Core 10 Dimensions (QLU-C10D) adds a preference-based scoring algorithm to the EORTC measurement portfolio. It is built on the most widely used health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measure in oncology, the EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire - Core 30 (QLQ-C30), allowing for the calculation of both HRQoL profiles and health utilities. This is an important advancement for integrating cancer-specific values into health economic evaluations and decision making, offering greater content validity and statistical power than some generic measures.

Taking into account involvement of the RNA-binding proteins in regulation of activity of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1), a key factor of DNA repair, the effect of the intrinsically disordered protein Sam68 (Src-associated substrate during mitosis of 68 kDa) on catalytic activity of this enzyme was studied. Plasmid containing coding sequence of the Sam68 protein was obtained. Using the obtained construct, conditions for the Sam68 expression in cells were optimized and procedure for protein purification was developed.

In recent years, liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerators (L-S TENGs) have been rapidly developed in the field of liquid energy harvesting and self-powered sensing. This is due to a number of advantages inherent in the technology, including the low cost of fabricated materials, structural diversity, high charge-energy conversion efficiency, environmental friendliness, and a wide range of applications. As liquid phase dielectric materials typically used in L-S TENG, a variety of organic and inorganic single-phase liquids, including distilled water, acidic solutions, sodium chloride solutions, acetone, dimethyl sulfoxide, and acetonitrile, as well as paraffinic oils, have been used in experiments.

We combine atomistic and continuum simulation methods to study the defect chemistry of a model grain boundary in UO. Using atomistic methods, we calculate the formation energies of oxygen interstitials, uranium vacancies, and hole polarons (U ions) across the Σ5(310)[001] symmetric tilt grain boundary. This information is then used as input in a continuum model of point-defect concentrations at the grain boundary and in its vicinity, taking into account electrostatic (space-charge) effects.
