Background: This study evaluated the spread of a local anesthetic, using MRI and sensory blockade, after an intertransverse process block (ITPB) at the medial aspect of the retro-superior costotransverse ligament (retro-SCTL) space - the medial retro-SCTL space block.

Methods: Ten healthy volunteers received a single-injection ultrasound-guided medial retro-SCTL space block at the T4-T5 level using a mixture of 10 ml 0.5 % bupivacaine with 0.

Aim: To propose a standardized, high-resolution ultrasound (US) protocol to assess the patellar tendon-Hoffa fat pad interface (PTHFPI) in patients with (proximal) patellar tendinopathy (PPT).

Methods: Using a high-frequency transducer and a high-level machine, we matched the cadaveric and histological microarchitecture of the PTHFPI with multiple sonographic patterns of patients with PPT. Likewise, high-sensitive color/power Doppler assessments were also performed to evaluate the microcirculation of the soft tissues beneath the patellar tendon.

Background: This study aimed to optimize a lateral transthyroid approach by using high-resolution ultrasonography (HRUS) for recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) visualization.

Patients And Methods: In this prospective study of 85 patients undergoing thyroidectomy, the RLN was visualized preoperatively by using a lateral transthyroid approach via HRUS. The inferior thyroid artery, thyroid nodule, and cricoid cartilage were used as landmarks.

Quantitative analysis of genicular nerve block spread and variability: Anatomical correlations and clinical implications.

Rev Esp Anestesiol Reanim (Engl Ed)

November 2024

Laboratorio de Neuroanatomía Quirúrgica (LSNA), Unidad de Anatomía Humana y Embriología, Facultad de Medicina y Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain.

Background: Despite advancements in anaesthesiology and regional anaesthesia, the three-dimensional spread of local anaesthetics is still poorly understood. This study investigates the pericapsular spread of radiopaque contrast after ultrasound-guided genicular nerve block in cadaveric knees using CT reconstruction. The aim is to assess the reproducibility, accuracy, and variability of this technique in order to improve safety and effectiveness.

Background: The use of ultrasonography to diagnose and manage peripheral nerve injury is not routinely performed, but is an advantageous alternative to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the pediatric population.

Case Description: The authors report a case of a toddler-aged female who sustained a supracondylar fracture and subsequent median and ulnar nerve injuries. All preoperative and postoperative imaging was performed through high-resolution ultrasound as opposed to MRI.
