A new species of Baylis, 1923 was found as a parasite of the fish (Agassiz, 1831) from a lake in the Jardim Botânico Bosque Rodrigues Alves, Belém, Brazil. has a smooth buccal capsule and a well-developed basal ring that is armed with four sclerotized tooth-like structures. The male of the new species is similar to the two species that are known from Brazilian fish, Pinto, Fábio, Noronha & Rolas, 1976, and Kohn & Fernandes, 1988, by the absence of the gubernaculum. It differs from these two by the morphology of the buccal capsule, the number are arrangement of the caudal papillae in males, the size and morphology of the spicules and the shape of the tail of both sexes. is the third species discovered in fish from Brazil. This finding extends the geographical distribution of the genus into the Brazilian Amazon.

This work shows the synthesis of a series of Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts from isatin derivatives via an efficient green approach involving the use of a new catalyst system, a mixture of copper-manganese iminodiacetate 1D coordination polymer (Cu/Mn-IDA) and choline chloride-urea deep eutectic solvent (ChCl/urea 1:2). The adducts were obtained in good to excellent yields (59-97%) with shorter reaction times. The results demonstrate for the first time the synergistic catalytic effect of the combination of deep eutectic solvent and coordination polymer on the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reactions.

UK mosquitoes are competent to transmit Usutu virus at native temperatures.

Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Liverpool, Liverpool L69 3BX, UK.

Usutu virus (USUV) is an emerging zoonotic virus transmitted primarily by mosquitoes. Since its introduction into Europe from Africa during the late 20th century, it has caused mortality within populations of passerine birds and captive owls, and can on occasion lead to disease in humans. USUV was first detected in the UK in 2020 and has become endemic, having been detected in either birds and/or mosquitoes every subsequent year.

Damage to the human heart is an irreparable process that results in a permanent impairment in cardiac function. There are, however, a number of vertebrate species including zebrafish (Danio rerio) that can regenerate their hearts following significant injury. In contrast to these regenerative species, mammals are known to have high levels of thyroid hormones, which has been proposed to play a role in this difference in regenerative capacity.

First genetic characterisation and phylogenetic position of (Nematoda: Cosmocercidae), infecting (Anura: Hylidae) in the Brazilian Pantanal.

Departamento de Parasitologia, Instituto de Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Av. Presidente Antônio Carlos, 6627, Pampulha, CEP 31270-901, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brasil.

(Baylis, 1927) is a widespread nematode in South America that infects different species of anurans from different families. Although the morphology of this species shows intraspecific variations and is well studied, does not have genetic characterisation. Therefore, the present study aimed to provide the first genetic characterisation of this parasite, based on 18S and 28S rDNA sequences, as well as to evaluate its phylogenetic position in the family Cosmocercidae.

An organophotoredox-catalyzed alkoxyallylation of feed-stock olefins, through thianthrenation using a Morita-Baylis-Hillman adduct as an allylating agent, is described. Site-selective addition of MeOH to an alkene-thianthrenium salt and its subsequent conversion into a nucleophilic radical species forms the basis of this unique difunctionalization strategy. The scope is also expanded into radical aryl allylation.
