Background And Objective: N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a useful predictor of cardiovascular events in patients without clinical evidence of cardiovascular disease. It is unknown if the cardiovascular risk factors control can modify these levels. We studied if atorvastatin treatment decrease NT-proBNP levels in hypercholesterolemic subjects, with and without hypertension.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of antioxidant vitamin C and E administration on dyslipidemia, plasma fatty acid composition, and biochemical inflammatory markers in children with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (FH).
Patients: Forty girls and boys with heterozygous FH, aged between 2 and 18 years, and with plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol levels higher than 160 mg/dl were studied.
Methods: We performed an open longitudinal randomized trial over a 1-year period.
