Styrenated phenols (SPs) are usually synthesized by the reaction of styrene and phenol under acid catalysts. SPs with a high content of di-styrenated phenol (DSP) can be used to prepare styrenated phenol alkoxylate (SP-A). Therefore, in this study, a scale-up process for synthesizing SPs with high DSP content which can be used for synthesis of SP-A was studied. The solid catalyst used in this study was prepared by impregnation method. SO₄ was impregnated on a SO₄/ZrO₂ catalyst in an aqueous 1 M H₂SO₄ solution. The prepared catalysts were characterized by NH3-TPD. Catalytic activity was examined by measuring the conversion of phenol and styrene in a liquid-phase batch reactor. Almost 100% conversion of both phenol and styrene over 5-SO₄/ZrO₂ catalyst was obtained at a reaction temperature of 80 °C and a reaction time of 6 h. The amount of catalyst to the reactants was 2 wt%. Under the same reaction conditions, the selectivity of MSP, DSP, and TSP was 12.4%, 64.5%, and 23.1% respectively.

A deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying transition metal-catalyzed transformation is crucial for developing innovative strategies to synthesize chiral organoselenium compounds. In this study, we developed and investigated a three-layer chirality relay model for the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydroselenation of alkenes through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In the back layer of this model, the four bulky substituents on the phosphorus atom of the bidentate chiral MeO-BIPHEP ligand were positioned on axial and equatorial bonds, thereby influencing the configuration of the middle layer.

This study aimed to evaluate the bondability of beech and alder wood modified through styrene polymerization within the wood lumen. Unmodified wood samples served as the reference material. Bondability was tested using four adhesive types commonly used in wood technology: polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), urea-formaldehyde (UF), phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde (PRF), and epoxy resin.

Bimetallic (Ta/Ti, V, Co, Nb) mesoporous MCM-41 nanoparticles were obtained by direct synthesis and hydrothermal treatment. The obtained mesoporous materials were characterized by XRD, XRF, N adsorption/desorption, SEM, TEM, XPS, Raman, UV-Vis, and PL spectroscopy. A more significant effect was observed on the mesoporous structure, typically for MCM-41, and on optic properties if the second metal (Ti, Co) did not belong to the same Vb group with Ta as V and Nb.

The widespread use of plastics in the food industry raises concerns about plastic migration and health risks. The degradation of primary polymers like polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE) can generate nanoplastics (NPs), increasing food biohazard. This study assessed the impact of PS, PE, and PS + PE NPs on (CV) and (HP) before and after in vitro and ex vivo digestion, focusing on particle size, polydispersity index, and surface charge.

Stilbenes constitute a class of naturally occurring polyphenolic compounds that have been identified in a wide range of plants. In wine, stilbenes play crucial roles in humans, exhibiting anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties, and aiding in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, studies on the synthesis and regulatory mechanisms of styrene compounds in grapes are of great economic importance.
