In order to overcome the intrinsic drawback of pristine g-C₃N₄, a nano-composite photo-catalyst Au/S-C₃N₄ with controllable nanoscale gold (Au) particles was successfully synthesized by a facile liquid chemical preparation process. It was found that the content of chloroauric acid (AuCl₃ · HCl · 4H₂O) play crucial role in both the diameter and the density of the Au nanoparticles. The results showed that as-prepared Au/S-C₃N₄ nanosheets with 2 wt% Au loaded content exhibited excellent photocatalytic decomposition of RhB under visible light irradiation as compared with other Au loadings (i.e., 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 4 wt% and 6 wt%). The photocatalytic activity of Au/S-C₃N₄ with 2 wt% Au loading was twice higher than that of bare S-C₃N₄ (0.00955 min). The enhanced performance could be attributed to the synergic effect of gold and sulfur on g-C₃N₄. A possible mechanism for elucidating the better performance of Au/S-C₃N₄ is also proposed and discussed in detail in this work.

The present study focuses on designing mutant peptides derived from the lanthanide binding tag (LBT) to enhance selectivity for trivalent actinide (An) ions over lanthanide (Ln) metal ions (M). The LBT is a short peptide consisting of only 17 amino acids, and is known for its high affinity towards Ln. LBT was modified by substituting hard-donor ligands like asparagine (ASN or N) and aspartic acid (ASP or D) with softer ligand cysteine (CYS or C) to create four mutant peptides: M-LBT (wild-type), M-N103C, M-D105C, and M-N103C-D105C.

Uterine tumor resembling ovarian sex cord tumor (UTROSCT) is a rare, typically benign uterine tumor occurring over a wide age range (mean 52.4 yr). UTROSCTs often harbor translocations between ESR1 and nuclear receptor coactivators NCOA1-NCOA3.

Aims: Alexander disease (AxD) is a leukodystrophy caused by mutations in the astrocytic filament gene GFAP. There are currently no effective treatments for AxD. Previous studies have rarely established AxD models with the patient's original GFAP mutations.

The role of surfactant proteins A and D (SP-A and SP-D) in lung clearance and translocation to secondary organs of inhaled nanoparticles was investigated by exposing SP-A and SP-D knockout (AKO and DKO) and wild type (WT) mice nose-only for 3 hours to an aerosol of 20 nm gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Animals were euthanised at 0-, 1-, 7- and 28-days post-exposure. Analysis by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) of the liver and kidneys showed that extrapulmonary translocation was below the limits of detection.

In the context of climate changing environments, microalgae can be excellent organisms to understand molecular mechanisms that activate survival strategies under stress. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii signalling mutants are extremely useful to decipher which strategies photosynthetic organisms use to cope with changeable environments. The mutant vip1-1 has an altered profile of pyroinositol polyphosphates (PP-InsPs), which are signalling molecules present in all eukaryotes and have been connected to P signalling in other organisms including plants, but their implications in other nutrient signalling are still under evaluation.
