Background: A late-appearing patch test reaction may be a sign of active sensitization or represent a delayed elicitation reaction.
Objectives: To retrospectively study the effect of concentration on the time course of allergic reactions to routine concentration dilution series of formaldehyde and nickel sulfate.
Methods: We tested concentration dilution series of 2%, 1%, 0.32% and 0.1% formaldehyde and 5%, 1.6%, 0.5% and 0.16% nickel sulfate, respectively. The last readings were performed on day 4 to day 6. We included patients with allergic reactions to either of the two lowest concentrations in each dilution series and whose tests had been read three times.
Results: Forty-two nickel-allergic and 23 formaldehyde-allergic patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria. In 26 (62%) of the nickel-sensitive patients, reactions to lower concentrations appeared later than reactions to the highest concentration. Of the formaldehyde-sensitive patients, 17 (74%) developed one or two allergic reactions to lower concentrations later than reactions to the highest concentration, and one (4%) patient developed allergic reactions to lower concentrations sooner than a reaction to the highest concentration. The remaining patients showed all allergic reactions at the same reading.
Conclusions: In these selected, relatively strongly sensitized patients, allergic reactions to lower concentrations quite regularly appeared later than reactions to higher concentrations.

Anesthetic and sedative drugs are small compounds known to bind to hundreds of proteins. One intriguing binding partner of propofol is the kinesin motor domain, kif5A, a neuronal mitochondrial transport protein. Here, we used zebrafish WT and kif5Aa KO larval behavioral assays to assess anesthetic sensitivity and combined that with zebrafish primary neuronal cell culture to probe for alteration in mitochondrial motility.

Objectives: Traditional methods of treating allergies primarily revolve around avoiding allergens and promptly using rescue medications when allergic symptoms occur. However, this approach is known for its inefficiency and limited success in achieving long-term relief. Our aim was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of previously published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that explore the effectiveness and safety of epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT) as a means to manage food allergies in children.

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are environmental contaminants that can cause a variety of health problems. This study sought to determine whether there was a relationship between PAHs and current asthma in adults.
Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2016 and employed multifactor logistic regression, subgroup analyses, and smoothed curve fitting to examine the linear and nonlinear associations between PAHs and current asthma.

Purpose: The study evaluated the effects of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) therapy in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) and a clinical history of Aspergillus fumigatus (AF) infection.
Methods: This prospective cohort study included pwCF who initiated ETI therapy and had received antifungal treatment in the preceding five years due to allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA group) or other AF-related clinical manifestations (AF group). A control group of pwCF with no prior respiratory cultures positive for AF was also included.

Background: Some studies have suggested that the forced expiratory flow between 25 and 75% of vital capacity (FEF) can be used as an early marker of bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) in asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR), but is highly variable. Here, we aimed to assess whether the FEF can be used to diagnose BHR in patients with asthma-like symptoms and AR.
Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library, Cochrane Library, SinoMed, CNKI, and Wanfang Data were searched to acquire eligible studies.
