Since 2011, Caribbean territories have experienced massive and repeated sargassum seaweed inundations. Once on shore, sargassum degradation through anaerobic metabolism elicits the release of many noxious molecules, including hydrogen sulfide (HS) and ammonia (NH). HS has been long recognized as a malodorous and highly toxic gas, while chronic exposure has not been extensively explored.

Microbial volatile organic compounds measured in the air of a waste sorting plant and a university by thermal desorption-gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Environ Monit Assess

January 2025

Institut de Recherche Robert-Sauvé en Santé Et en Sécurité du Travail (IRSST), Montréal, Québec, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • In recyclable waste management facilities, bioaerosols and microorganisms may be released, posing health risks, with a focus on microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) as potential mold exposure biomarkers.
  • A study compared mVOC concentrations between a recyclable waste sorting plant (WSP) and a university campus (UC), finding 13 mVOCs at WSP versus only 3 at UC, emphasizing the higher levels of contamination at WSP.
  • The research optimized mVOC sampling methods, revealing distinct profiles of mVOCs in contaminated versus non-contaminated environments and identifying specific mVOCs that serve well as biomarkers for mold exposure.

Objective: assessment of probable exposure levels from radon and NORM in workplaces within the context of justi fying radiation protection plans in an existing exposure situation.

Materials And Methods: Materials regarding the assessment of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) con tent in tailing from mining and processing industries in Ukraine and assessments of contamination levels of industri al sites of oil and gas enterprises were used for estimating the probable range of effective doses (ED) of workers fromNORM at industrial enterprises. These materials were obtained as a result of research conducted by specialists from theRadiation Protection Laboratory of the State Institution «O.

Unlabelled: This assessment was designed to explore and characterize the airborne particles, especially for the sub-micrometer sizes, in an underground coal mine. Airborne particles present in the breathing zone were evaluated by using both (1) direct reading real-time instruments (RTIs) to measure real-time particle number concentrations in the workplaces and (2) gravimetric samplers to collect airborne particles to obtain mass concentrations and conduct further characterizations. Airborne coal mine particles were collected via three samplers: inhalable particle sampler (37 mm cassette with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) filter), respirable dust cyclone (10 mm nylon cyclone with 37 mm Zefon cassette and PVC filter), and a Tsai diffusion sampler (TDS).

The employee's perception of psychological safety: construct dimensions, scale development and validation.

BMC Psychol

December 2024

Teaching and Research Support Center, Air Force Medical University, No.169, Changle West Road, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, 710032, China.

Although organisations can effectively resist risks and enhance organisational performance by creating a Perception of Psychological Safety (PPS) climate, there is a lack of PPS scales developed under a multidimensional integrated interaction perspective. Based on a review of relevant theories, this paper clearly defines the concept of PPS and proposes a three-dimensional model of PPS, including organisational- level PPS, team- level PPS, and dyadic- level PPS. In this paper, we develop and validate a scale for measuring PPS in the workplace using 12 startups in a relatively economically developed region in the southeastern coastal region of China as the empirical target.
