Background/aim: Our aim was to determine serum TLR-9 levels in sepsis and evaluate the relationship between sepsis and serum TLR-9 levels.
Materials And Methods: The study group consisted of 80 consecutive patients with sepsis and 100 healthy individuals. The demographic characteristics, co-morbidities and hemodynamic data of all patients were recorded.
Results: TLR-9 serum levels in sepsis were statistically significantly lower compared to the control group. It was also seen that when the lactate level was >5 mmol/l in patients in the sepsis group, the serum TLR-9 levels were substantially higher.
Conclusion: There is a relationship between sepsis-induced immunosuppression and serum TLR-9 levels. The host immunity system can be activated by means of TLR-9-related systems, while hyperlactatemia may play a stimulating role in the re-activation of the immune system.

The relationship between Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and prostate cancer (PCa) is complex due to the presence of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, which has been identified as a predisposing factor for some cancers, including PCa. The present study aims to investigate these complex links by examining the levels of selected TLRs and the potential impact of EBV infection on PCa. Therefore, we examined the serum of patients with PCa.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is one of the most common and fatal malignancies that affect adults, which can quickly become aggressive if left untreated, and leukemia cells invade the bone marrow. TLR-9 is an innate immune cell receptor sensitive to various PAMPs and encoded by the TLR-9 gene. As is often known, genetic polymorphisms in any gene can help the development of the disease, and these three polymorphisms, rs187084, rs5743836, and rs352140 of TLR-9, have been studied in many different cancer disorders.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between serum TLR (Toll Like Receptor) 4, 9 and Resolvin E1 levels and primary sarcopenia in geriatric patients and to compare the diagnostic accuracy of these biomarkers with the SARC-F score. A total of 88 patients aged 65 years and older were evaluated in the study. Comorbidities and geriatric syndromes were identified and patients with secondary sarcopenia were excluded.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that bacteriophages (phages) can effectively treat intestinal bacterial infections. However, research on the impact of phages on overall body health once they enter the intestine is limited. This study utilized weaned piglets as subjects to evaluate the systemic effects of an orally administered phage cocktail on their health.

Understanding the complex interactions between metabolism and the immune system ("metaflammation") is crucial for the identification of key immunomodulatory factors as potential therapeutic targets in obesity and in cardiovascular diseases. Cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (CAMP) is an important factor of innate immunity and is expressed in adipocytes. CAMP, therefore, might play a role as an adipokine in metaflammation and adipose inflammation.
