Aim: SNPs in the gene for TPMT exemplify one of the most successful translations of pharmacogenomics into clinical practice. This study explains the correlation between common SNPs and variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) in promoter of the gene.

Materials & Methods: We determined VNTR polymorphisms, as well as TPMT*2 and TPMT*3 SNPs and TPMT activity in Slovenian and Italian individuals and lymphoblastoid cell lines.

Results: We observed a previously unreported VNTR allele, AB7C, in a TPMT*3A heterozygous individual. VNTRs with two (AB2C) and three or more (ABnC, n ≥ 3) B motifs were statistically significant in complete linkage disequilibrium (D' = 1, r = 1, p < 0.0001) with the TPMT*3C and TPMT*3A alleles, respectively.

Conclusion: The study provides insights into the stepwise evolution of TPMT*3 alleles from *3C to *3A, with increasing number of B motifs in the VNTR region.

January 2025

Departamento de Saúde Interdisciplinaridade e Reabilitação, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP - Campinas (SP), Brasil.

Purpose: To verify possible correlations between fo and voice satisfaction among Brazilian transgender people.

Methods: An observational, cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with the Trans Woman Voice Questionnaire (TWVQ), voice recording (sustained vowel and automatic speech) and extraction of seven acoustic measurements related to fo position and variability in transgender people. Participants were divided into two groups according to gender.

Contextuality is a hallmark feature of the quantum theory that captures its incompatibility with any noncontextual hidden-variable model. The Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ)-type paradoxes are proofs of contextuality that reveal this incompatibility with deterministic logical arguments. However, the GHZ-type paradox whose events can be included in the fewest contexts and that brings the strongest nonclassicality remains elusive.

Introduction: The one-minute sit to stand test (1min-STST) is a field test used to assess functional capacity. It is easily implementable and of significant clinical utility; however, no reference values are currently available for the Chilean population. The objective of this study was to establish reference values for the 1min-STST in a healthy Chilean population.

Many machine learning techniques have been used to construct gene regulatory networks (GRNs) through precision matrix that considers conditional independence among genes, and finally produces sparse version of GRNs. This construction can be improved using the auxiliary information like gene expression profile of the related species or gene markers. To reach out this goal, we apply a generalized linear model (GLM) in first step and later a penalized maximum likelihood to construct the gene regulatory network using Glasso technique for the residuals of a multi-level multivariate GLM among the gene expressions of one species as a multi-levels response variable and the gene expression of related species as a multivariate covariates.

We uncover emergent universality arising in the equilibration dynamics of multimode continuous-variable systems. Specifically, we study the ensemble of pure states supported on a small subsystem of a few modes, generated by Gaussian measurements on the remaining modes of a globally pure bosonic Gaussian state. We find that beginning from highly entangled, complex global states, such as random Gaussian states and product squeezed states coupled via a deep array of linear optical elements, the induced ensemble attains a universal form, independent of the choice of measurement basis: it is composed of unsqueezed coherent states whose displacements are distributed normally and isotropically, with variance depending on only the particle-number density of the system.
