Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by postural instability, autonomic failure, cerebellar ataxia, and cognitive deficits. There is currently no effective cure. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), offers promise in amendment of motor, and cognitive performance in advanced Parkinson's disease. We estimated the effect of anodal tDCS on motor and cognitive function in a 66-year-old woman with moderate MSA. For the evaluation of the motor function, we used the Unified MSA Rating Scale II, the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III (UPDRS III), and the Timed Up and Go test (TUG). The battery of neuropsychological tests included the Rey's Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) and the Digit Symbol Substitution Test-Wechsler Adult Intelligence (DSST-WAIS-III), the Trail Making Test (TMT-A). tDCS was applied in 10 sessions. Clinical evaluations were performed at baseline, day 11, day 30, and at day 90. Anodal stimulation was associated with improvement in UPDRS III and the TUG test. A positive effect was also seen in RAVLT the DSST-WAIS-III and the TMT-A. Our results suggest that tDCS has a beneficial effect mainly on motor performance in MSA, which lasts beyond the duration of the treatment.Implications for rehabilitationMultiple system atrophy is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by postural instability, motor, and cognitive deficits.Transcranial direct current stimulation offers promise in amendment of motor and cognitive performance in advanced Parkinson's disease.Stimulation was associated with significant improvement in Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III and the Timed Up and Go test.A positive effect was also seen in auditory-verbal memory and learning in working memory and in visuomotor activity and processing speed.Transcranial direct current stimulation has a beneficial effect mainly on motor performance, which lasts beyond the duration of the treatment.

Background: Primary intracranial germ cell tumors (iGCTs) are highly malignant brain tumors that predominantly occur in children and adolescents, with an incidence rate ranking third among primary brain tumors in East Asia (8%-15%). Due to their insidious onset and impact on critical functional areas of the brain, these tumors often result in irreversible abnormalities in growth and development, as well as cognitive and motor impairments in affected children. Therefore, early diagnosis through advanced screening techniques is vital for improving patient outcomes and quality of life.

Background: The utility of aging metrics that incorporate cognitive and physical function is not fully understood.
Objective: We aim to compare the predictive capacities of 3 distinct aging metrics-motoric cognitive risk syndrome (MCR), physio-cognitive decline syndrome (PCDS), and cognitive frailty (CF)-for incident dementia and all-cause mortality among community-dwelling older adults.
Methods: We used longitudinal data from waves 10-15 of the Health and Retirement Study.

Determining the level of consciousness in patients with brain injury-and more fundamentally, establishing what they can experience-is ethically and clinically impactful. Patient behaviors may unreliably reflect their level of consciousness: a subset of unresponsive patients demonstrate covert consciousness by willfully modulating their brain activity to commands through fMRI or EEG. However, current paradigms for assessing covert consciousness remain fundamentally limited because they are insensitive, rely on imperfect assumptions of functional neuroanatomy, and do not reflect the spectrum of conscious experience.

While patients with post-stroke aphasia recover over time, the dynamics of the underlying changes in the brain remain elusive. Neuroimaging work demonstrated that language recovery is a heterogeneous process, characterized by varying activation levels in several regions of the left-hemispheric language network and the domain-general bilateral multiple-demand network.

Background: Non-motor symptoms, including depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, pain and cognitive dysfunction, are a much more important predictor of quality of life than the severity of dystonia.
Objectives: To assess the effect of Botulinum toxin on non-motor symptoms and quality of life in patients with adult-onset idiopathic focal dystonia.
Methods: Patients aged > 18 years diagnosed with idiopathic focal dystonia were recruited in this longitudinal cohort study.
