The genus within the subfamily Triatominae and tribe Rhodniini comprises the species , , and , all potential vectors of Chagas disease. A feature of is their close association with birds, which makes them an interesting model for evolutionary studies. We analyzed cytogenetically spp., with the aim of contributing to the genetic and evolutionary knowledge of these vectors. All species of the showed the same chromosomal characteristics: chromocenter formed only by sex chromosomes X and Y, karyotype 2 = 22 and constitutive heterochromatin, and AT base pairs restricted to the sex chromosome Y. These results corroborate the monophyly of the genus and lead to the hypothesis that during the derivation of , , and from their common ancestor, there was no reorganization in the number or structure of chromosomes.

We present a novel mitogenome assembly of the Redlip Shiner, , and assemblies for the Greenhead Shiner, (Cypriniformes: Leuciscidae). Both are charismatic minnows in the taxonomic group and are endemic to the eastern United States. The genome contains 16,711bp and 16,706bp each comprising a total of 13 protein coding genes, 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, and a control region.

Phylogenomic analyses have shown that reticulate evolution greatly affects the accuracy of phylogenetic inferences, and thus may challenge the authority of bifurcating phylogenetic trees. In this study, we re-evaluated the phylogenetic backbone of the genus Corylus based on complete taxon sampling and genomic data. We assembled 581 single-copy nuclear genes and whole plastomes from 64 genome resequencing datasets to elucidate the reticulate relationships within Corylus.

Although the 16S (and 18S) rRNA gene has been an essential tool in classifying prokaryotes, using a single locus to revise bacteria taxonomy can introduce unwanted artifacts. There was a recent proposition to split the Methylobacterium genus, which contains diverse plant-associated strains and is important for agriculture and biotechnology, into two genera. Resting strongly on the phylogeny of 16S rRNA, 11 species of Methylobacterium were transferred to a newly proposed genus Methylorubrum.

The superfamily Mantispoidea (Insecta: Neuroptera) includes the families Berothidae, Rhachiberothidae and Mantispidae. Among these taxa, the last two are collectively known as Raptorial Mantispoidea due to the presence of grasping forelegs for predatory habits. The Mantispidae classically included the subfamilies Symphrasinae, Drepanicinae, Calomantispinae and Mantispinae, yet recent research challenged this classification scheme as well as the monophyly of this family resulting in Symphrasinae being transferred to Rhachiberothidae.

Rhizomorphs are hair- or wire-like melanized structures with structural differentiation analogous to plant roots that help fungi spread over an area and find food resources. Some species of multiple groups of the and the produce different types of rhizomorphs. In the , the structures are largely found in , particularly in the , , and .
