An activated carbon cloth/polymer-iodine (ACC/PVP-I2) composite was prepared by the "Betadine" method and employed as a high-performance cathode for rechargeable Li/I2 batteries. Due to the synergistic effect of ACC and PVP-I2, Li/I2 cells with ACC/PVP-I2 as the cathode exhibited superior electrochemical performance.

Recently, the use of a gel polymer electrolyte for the development of robust, flexible, quasi-solid, ultra-stable, high-performance zinc-ion batteries (ZiBs) as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries has attracted widespread attention. However, the performance of ZiBs is limited due to the lack of suitable gel electrolytes. Herein, a ″water-in-salt″ (WiS)-based hydrophilic molecular crowded polymer gel electrolyte and binder free VO@MnO cathode are introduced to augment the durability, flexibility, safety, and electrochemical performance of ZiBs.

Binder-free C@NiCoO on Ni foam with ultra-stable pseudocapacitive lithium ion storage.

Nanotechnology

March 2019

Pen-Tung Sah Institute of Micro-Nano Science and Technology, Xiamen University, 361005, Xiamen, People's Republic of China.

Carbon-coated nickel cobaltate on nickel foam (C@NCO@NF) with stable pseudocapacitive lithium storage capacity was prepared via a two-step strategy. NiCo hydroxide was initially grown on Ni foam via electrodeposition. Subsequent glucose soaking and annealing converted the intermediate into C@NCO@NF.

Facile and scalable carbon- and binder-free electrode materials for ultra-stable and highly improved Li-O batteries.

Chem Commun (Camb)

March 2018

MOE Key Laboratory of Bioinorganic and Synthetic Chemistry, School of Chemistry, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou 510275, China.

A carbon- and binder-free Ti@Ru material is synthesized through a facile and controllable strategy. A Ti@Ru based Li-O battery can effectively avoid the subsidiary reactions, and can be reversibly and continuously cycled for more than 500 cycles with an efficiency ca. 100%, exhibiting an ultra-cycling stability.

CuO Quantum Dots Embedded in Carbon Nanofibers as Binder-Free Anode for Sodium Ion Batteries with Enhanced Properties.

Small

September 2016

Key Laboratory of Advanced Energy Materials Chemistry (Ministry of Education), College of Chemistry, Nankai University, Tianjin, 300071, China.

The design of sodium ion batteries is proposed based on the use of flexible membrane composed of ultrasmall transition metal oxides. In this paper, the preparation of CuO quantum dots (≈2 nm) delicately embedded in carbon nanofibers (denoted as 2-CuO@C) with a thin film via a feasible electrospinning method is reported. The CuO content can be controlled by altering the synthetic conditions and is optimized to 54 wt%.
