The potential toxic risk of mercury (Hg) and arsenic (As) in the soils of mining regions and other artificially disturbed lands receives considerable research attention. However, limited investigation has been conducted into the surface soils of natural globally distributed ecosystems, for example peatlands. In this study, we examine the distribution, controlling factors, sources, and potential ecological risks of Hg and As in 96 samples from 42 peatlands in the Changbai Mountains of northeastern China. The results showed that average concentrations (dry weight) of Hg and As at the samples sites were 169.1 ± 0.1 µg kg and 13.0 ± 7.7 mg kg, respectively. The distribution of Hg is largely determined by latitude and altitude, while As is controlled more by pH, total organic carbon (TOC), and ratio of TOC and nitrogen (C/N) at the regional scale. Variations in TOC, C/N ratio, and redox conditions contribute to determining the distribution of Hg, while TOC and redox conditions mainly affected the distribution of Arsenic at the local scale. Mercury mostly comes from regional atmospheric wet deposition, whereas elevated concentrations of As are related to local anthropogenic activities. Overall, Hg and As in the peatlands of the Changbai Mountains pose a moderate level of potential risk to ecological health.

Scopoleitin (SP), a bioactive compound from many edible plants and fruits, exerts a wide range of biological activities, however the role and mechanism of SP in acetaminophen (APAP)-induced hepatotoxicity remains unclear. In this study, we verified the protective effect of SP on APAP-induced liver injury (AILI) hepatotoxicity and explore the underlying molecular mechanisms. Here, we showed that SP alleviated AILI by reducing serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels, hepatic histopathological damage, inflammation, and liver cell apoptosis.

Larch wood, a prevalent cultivation medium for , has yet to be scrutinized concerning the differential impacts of sterilized and non-sterilized substrates on the growth and development of this fungus. Our present investigation sought to elucidate these effects in a forest-like environment. After larch wood segments were sun-dried, they were divided into two groups; one group was bagged and autoclaved, while the other group was bagged without any treatment.

Background And Aim: Formononetin (FMN) is a compound isolated from Astragalus membranaceus, that exhibits a range of pharmacological activities, including antitumor, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, and antioxidant effects. Although preliminary study suggests that FMN have a therapeutic role in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), its specific mechanism of action requires further investigation. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism by which FMN treats DSS-induced colitis in mice.

Most natural products in nature have broad but not exceedingly good biological activities. The pyrazole structure has been introduced into natural products due to its suitability for various synthetic methods and its broad pharmacological activities. This article provides a detailed introduction to the anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-Alzheimer disease activities of pyrazole-modified natural product derivatives, particularly their anti-tumor activity.

Introduction: Despite evidence of the efficacy of decursinol angelate (DA), a prescription medication derived farom traditional Chinese medicine, in alleviating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the precise mechanisms behind its action remain unclear.
Methods: Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) induction were used as and models of IBD, respectively, to assess the role of DA in alleviating IBD. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect the expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in mouse serum, Western blot was performed to detect the expression of TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway tight junction (TJ) proteins in colon tissues and cells, and immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and qRT-PCR were used to validate the proteins related to this signaling pathway.
