A series of symmetrically and unsymmetrically N,N'-diaryl-substituted amidinomethyl diethyldithiocarbamates and corresponding amides have been synthesized and tested for potential radioprotective activity. Antiradiation data for 10 amidines are presented. Half of the amidines showed low toxicity and radioprotective activity, based on both protective index (PI) and 30-day survival (greater than 35%) after lethal irradiation (800-rad X-rays). All (N-arylcarbamoyl)methyl diethyldithiocarbamates investigated were nonprotective.

The confined synthesis of carbon dots (CDs) in solid matrixes is a promising avenue for developing new afterglow materials. Benefiting from the advantages of the sol-gel preparation of nanoporous glass, we report transparent glass-confined CDs with tunable afterglow luminescence. Switchable thermally-activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of CDs were achieved by adjusting the sintering temperature and ion doping.

Traditional passive single-spectrum electromagnetic defense materials are inadequate to defend against complex multispectral electromagnetic threats. Herein, a bilayer heterofilm (BLH film)-based magnetically controllable soft actuator (MCSA), comprising a defense unit and a drive unit, is constructed. The defense unit offers multispectral electromagnetic protection, while the drive unit enables active defense via magnetic actuation.

Chongqing Radiation Environment Supervision and Management Station, Chongqing, 4001120, PR China.

Under the guidance of national energy-saving and environmental protection policies, the addition of high-radioactivity waste materials to cement may lead to the accumulation of various radioactive elements, potentially harming human health if not properly controlled. This study selected three representative cement production companies in Chongqing for sampling based on their production line processes. The activities of the radionuclides Ra, Th, and K in raw materials, fuels, additives, and final products were measured using a low-background high-purity germanium spectrometer.

A method in non-destructive testing for lead shielding exceeding 25 kg/m using F.

March 2025

Biomedical Technology Services, Queensland Health, Brisbane, Australia.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a commonly used technique for barrier verification within radiation protection, ensuring compliance with national standards and state regulations. There are currently limited published methods in NDT for lead shielding above 25 kg/m, and thus this research aimed to develop a reproducible method to aid in 'in the field' NDT for lead barriers exceeding 25 kg/m using a Fluorine-18 (F) source. Due to the fast decay of F, the data generated within this research was compiled from Monte Carlo (MC) simulations using the PENELOPE engine, and the PENGEOM geometry system to model the proposed empirical setup.

COL17A1 is predominantly expressed in skin epithelial cells and primarily localized within hemidesmosomes. It plays an essential role in epidermal-dermal attachment. Consequently, a recombinant human-like COL17A1 protein (rhCOL17) with low molecular weight and high biocompatibility presents a promising and competitive biomaterial.
