Article Synopsis
  • Ocular adnexal sebaceous carcinoma (SebCA) is a type of eye tumor that is hard to understand and often needs intense surgery to treat.
  • Researchers aimed to create new cell lines from tumor samples to better study the tumor and test drugs.
  • Three cell lines were created, showing specific growth patterns and reactions to drug treatments, which will help scientists learn more about SebCA and find better treatment options.

Exploring Alkyl Ester Salts of L-Amino Acid Derivatives of Ibuprofen: Physicochemical Characterization and Transdermal Potential.

Molecules

November 2023

Department of Chemical Organic Technology and Polymeric Materials, Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering, West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, Piastów Ave. 42, 71-065 Szczecin, Poland.

This research presents novel ibuprofen derivatives in the form of alkyl ester salts of L-amino acids with potential analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties for potential use in transdermal therapeutic systems. New derivatives of ()-2-[4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl]propionic acid were synthesized using hydrochlorides of alkyl esters (ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, -butyl, -butyl, and pentyl) of L-glutamine. These were further transformed into alkyl esters of L-amino acid ibuprofenates through neutralization and protonation reactions.

Glutamine alleviates Lipopolysaccharide-induced corneal epithelial inflammation and oxidative stress in dogs.

Exp Eye Res

September 2023

Ministry of Education Joint International Research Laboratory of Animal Health and Food Safety, College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, PR China. Electronic address:

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common pathogenic bacteria in canine ophthalmology. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a component in the cell wall of gram-negative bacteria, is released following bacterial lysis and causes pathology and inflammation of the cornea. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial keratitis, and the reuse of antibiotics can easily cause bacterial resistance.

Tissue injury induces metabolic changes in stem cells, which likely modulate regeneration. Using a model of organ regeneration called wound-induced hair follicle neogenesis (WIHN), we identified skin-resident bacteria as key modulators of keratinocyte metabolism, demonstrating a positive correlation between bacterial load, glutamine metabolism, and regeneration. Specifically, through comprehensive multiomic analysis and single-cell RNA sequencing in murine skin, we show that bacterially induced hypoxia drives increased glutamine metabolism in keratinocytes with attendant enhancement of skin and hair follicle regeneration.

Seborrheic keratosis (SK) is a common, benign tumor that can occur on everybody site and can be conservatively managed. Cosmetic concerns, especially when a lesion involves the facial area, are the most common reason for excision. SK shows male gender preponderance and increasing age is an independent association with the condition.
