A sensitive and disposable amperometric immunosensor for Saccharomyces cerevisiae was constructed by using carbon screen-printed electrodes modified with propionic acid-functionalized graphene oxide as transduction element. The affinity-based biosensing interface was assembled by covalent immobilization of a specific polyclonal antibody on the carboxylate-enriched electrode surface via a water-soluble carbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide coupling approach. A concanavalin A-peroxidase conjugate was further used as signaling element. The immunosensor allowed the amperometric detection of the yeast in buffer solution and white wine samples in the range of 10-10 CFU/mL. This electroanalytical device also exhibited low detection limit and high selectivity, reproducibility, and storage stability. The immunosensor was successfully validated in spiked white wine samples.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is characterized by an autosomal recessive mutation in the phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene. Impaired PAH enzyme activity leads to the accumulation of phenylalanine (Phe) and its metabolites in the bloodstream, which disrupts the central nervous system and causes psychomotor retardation. Early diagnosis of PKU is essential for timely intervention.

Early detection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is crucial for eliminating this silent killer, especially in resource-limited settings. HCV core antigen (HCVcAg) represents a promising alternative to the current "gold standard" HCV RNA assays as an active viremia biomarker. Herein, a highly sensitive electrochemical magneto-immunosensor for the HCVcAg was developed.

Organophosphate pesticides (OPs) are causing non-selective inhibition in enzymatic bioreceptors, thus the enzymatic-inhibition-based traditional assays are not suitable for their specific detection in food and environmental samples. Accordingly, a selective nanostructured electrochemical biosensing system was designed using six mutants of the esterase-2 (EST2 protein) enzymes from A. acidocaldarius to be exploited as targeting bio-receptors for the specific detection of OPs.

A nanocomposite of iron barium titanate/NiFeO (FBT/NF) was synthesized using sol-gel techniques to form organized hexagonal structures. The effects of NiFeO nanostructures on FBT's phase purity, morphology, and dielectric properties were systematically explored and intensively discussed. TEM imaging confirmed the hexagonal structure, and electrical measurements revealed that para-electric NF influenced the conductivity and impedance of ferroelectric FBT, with a shift in Curie temperature to lower values.

This study reports the design and development of a disposable amperometric biosensor for the determination of L-glutamate. Glutamate oxidase (GlOx) was immobilized onto a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPE) modified with poly-L-Aspartic acid (PAsp), carbon quantum dots (CQD), and platinum nanoparticles (PtNP) for the construction of the biosensor. The surface composition of the modified SPE was optimized using the one variable at a time method.
