In this paper, the modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared by β-cyclodextrin denoted as β-CD-MWNTs. The structure and morphology of β-CD-MWNTs was characterized by TEM and the dynamic adsorption of p-nitrophenol on β-CD-MWNTs was studied by the Thomas model. Some affecting factors of dynamic adsorption and the adsorbent regeneration process such as the sewage concentration, the amount of absorbent in column, including the type of reagent, solid-liquid ratio, regeneration time, and regeneration times were investigated and optimized. The results indicated that the p-nitrophenol removal rate could reach 84% under stuffing 2 g β-CD-MWNTs. The curves of p-nitrophenol's dynamic adsorption conformed to the Thomas model. Moreover, the adsorption capacity of regenerated β-CD-MWNTs was similar to the fresh β-CD-MWNT column. The optimal conditions of regenerations of β-CD-MWNTs were shown as follows: the type of reagent is anhydrous ethanol, the solid-liquid ratio is 200:40 (mg/mL) and the regeneration time is 120 min.

The study of emerging contaminants (ECs) in water resources has garnered significant attention due to their potential risks to human health and the environment. This review examines the contribution from computational approaches, focusing on the application of machine learning (ML) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to understand and optimize experimental applications of ECs adsorption on carbon-based nanomaterials. Condensed matter physics plays a crucial role in this research by investigating the fundamental properties of materials at the atomic and molecular levels, enabling the design and engineering of materials optimized for contaminant removal.

A poly(vinyl alcohol)/montmorillonite/titania (PVA/MMT/TiO) nanocomposite film was fabricated via a simple solution casting strategy for the removal of cationic as well as anionic dyes. The developed nanocomposite film was subjected to X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), mechanical property evaluation, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The embedding of MMT and TiO nanoparticles onto a PVA matrix has been confirmed from XRD, FTIR, and SEM analysis.

The main bottleneck in the catalytic combustion of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) is deactivation and the production of chlorine-containing byproducts originating from the chlorine species deposited on the catalyst. Herein, Ru supported on SnO (Ru/SnO) was prepared with the lattice matching principle. As RuO and SnO are both rutile phases, Ru species were present as highly dispersed RuO particles on the Ru/SnO catalyst.

We report three novel pore-space-partitioned metal‒organic frameworks (MOFs) functionalized with fluorine and hydroxyl groups using 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (F4-BDC) and a new ligand 3,6-difluoro-2,5-dihydroxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (F2(OH)2-BDC) as organic building blocks, with 1,3,5-tris(4-pyridyl)-2,4,6-triazine (TPT) as pore partition agent. With the polar fluorine and hydroxyl groups and the open metal sites being blocked by TPT, moderate molecule-framework interactions can be engineered. These three isoreticular microporous frameworks Mn-TPT-BDC-F4 (NCKU-21), Mn-TPT-BDC-F2(OH)2 (NCKU-22), and Mg-TPT-BDC-F2(OH)2 (NCKU-23) (NCKU = National Cheng Kung University) exhibit distinct single-component gas adsorption behaviors.

The term graphene-based gas sensors may be too broad, as there are many physicochemical differences within the graphene-based materials (GBM) used for chemiresistive gas sensors. These differences condition the sensitivity, selectivity, recovery, and ultimately the sensing performance of these devices towards air pollutants. Continuous ultraviolet irradiation aids in the desorption of gas molecules and enhances sensor performance.
