In this work, an ultrasonic-assisted supramolecular based on solidification of floating organic drop microextraction (UA-SM-SFO-ME) was developed as a green method for preconcentration of methadone prior to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The supramolecular solvent aggregates containing reverse micelles of 1-dodecanol in tetrahydrofuran (THF) were formed by ultrasonication that subsequently dispersed in the sample solution. Ultrasonic waves caused the fast formation of supramolecular solvent aggregates. In this work, ultrasonication was used in two phases: First phase, the formation of reverse micelles and the second phase, the dispersion of supramolecular solvent in the sample solution. Actually, ultrasonication was basic of this presented work. In order to provide the highest extraction efficiency, the influence of various parameters on the method performance (supramolecular solvent type and volume, disperser solvent condition, pH, extraction time and salt concentration) was investigated. Based on the obtained optimum conditions, the limits of detection (LODs) and the limits of quantitation (LOQs) were obtained 0.5-1.2 µg L and 1.2-2.5 µg L with preconcentration factors in the range of 182-191, in water and biological samples, respectively. Subsequently, the method was assessed for preconcentration of the methadone in human plasma and saliva samples.

Bioinspired supramolecular architectonics is attracting increasing interest due to their flexible organization and multifunctionality. However, state-of-the-art bioinspired architectonics generally take place in solvent-based circumstance, thus leading to achieving precise control over the self-assembly remains challenging. Moreover, the intrinsic difficulty of ordering the bio-organic self-assemblies into stable large-scale arrays in the liquid environment for engineering devices severely restricts their extensive applications.

Here, we report the design, synthesis, and comprehensive characterization of the bis-cholesterol supramolecular gelator, which contains photochromic stiff-stilbene as a bridging unit. The -isomer of stiff-stilbene bridged bis-cholesterol (-) was first synthesized with a systematic design, which can be further converted into its -isomer (-) with a high degree of efficiency (ca. 100%) upon exposure to 385 nm UV light.

Three fluorescent Zn coordaintion polymers (CPs) have been synthesized from the reactions of Zn(NO3)2∙6H2O, benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2bdc), and angular carbazole-derived bispyridyl ligands (Cz-3,6-bpy or Cz-Pr-3,6-bpy). CPs 1-3 all adopt similar two-dimensional (2D) ring-and-rod layer structures, described as topologically 4-connected 2∙65 nets where the Zn(II) centers act as 4-connected nodes. CPs 1 and 2 are a pair of solvent-mediated supramolecular isomers where the former shows a two-fold interlocked 2D → 2D polyrotaxane-like entangled net and the latter reveals a four-fold interpenetrated 2D → 3D polyrotaxane entanglement.

Hybrid Soft Segments Boost the Development of Ultratough Thermoplastic Elastomers with Tunable Hardness.

Adv Mater

January 2025

National Engineering Research Center for Colloidal Materials, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, 250100, P. R. China.

The hardness of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) significantly influences their suitability for various applications, but traditionally, enhancing hardness reduces toughness. Herein a method is introduced that leverages hybrid soft segments to fine-tune the hardness of TPEs without compromising their exceptional toughness. Through the selective copolymerization of polytetramethylene ether glycols (PTMEGs) at various molecular weights, supramolecular poly(urethane-urea) TPEs are molecularly engineered to cover a wide spectrum of hardness while retaining good toughness.

Universidad Complutense de Madrid Facultad de Ciencias Quimicas, Inorganic Chemistry Department, 28034, Madrid, SPAIN.

Achieving high battery performance from low-cost, easily synthesisable electrode materials is crucial for advancing energy storage technologies. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) combining inexpensive transition metals and organic ligands are promising candidates for high-capacity cathodes. Iron-chloranilate-water frameworks are herein reported to be produced in aqueous media under mild conditions.
