Germanophosphates, as a young class of metal phosphates, have been less reported but might possess more diverse structural types and potential applications. Here, two one-dimensional (1D) alkali-metal germanophosphates (GePOs), namely, hydrogen hexakis(μ-hydrogen phosphato)digermaniumtrirubidium, HRbGe(HPO) (1), and caesium bis(μ-hydrogen phosphato)(μ-hydroxido)germanium, CsGe(HPO)(OH) (2), have been prepared by the solvothermal method. Compound 1 shows 1D [Ge(HPO)] chains along the c axis formed by GeO octahedra and PO tetrahedra, with Rb cations dissociated between the chains. Compound 2 also exhibits 1D [Ge(HPO)(OH)] chains constructed from adjacent Ge(HPO)(OH) octahedra, with Cs cations dissociated between the chains. XRD, TGA, IR and UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectra are presented and discussed for both compounds.

Ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN) is a nitrate ester explosive widely used in military ordnance and missile systems. This study investigates the decomposition dynamics of the EGDN cation using a comprehensive approach that combines femtosecond time-resolved mass spectrometry (FTRMS) experiments with electronic structure and molecular dynamics computations. We identify three distinct dissociation time scales for the metastable EGDN cation of approximately 40-60 fs, 340-450 fs, and >2 ps.

Ultrathin atomic layer deposited ceria films (< 20 nm) are capable of H2 heterolytic activation at room temperature, undergoing a significant reduction regardless of the absolute pressure, as measured under in-situ conditions by near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. ALD-ceria can gradually reduce as a function of H2 concentration under H2/O2 environments, especially for diluted mixtures below 10%. At room temperature, this reduction is limited to the surface region, where the hydroxylation of the ceria surface induces a charge transfer towards the ceria matrix, reducing Ce4+ cations to Ce3+.

We report photodissociation processes and spectral measurements upon photoabsorption of size-selected cationic silver clusters, Ag, stored in an ion trap. The experiment shows that small clusters ( ≲ 15) dissociate upon one-photon absorption, whereas larger ones require multiple photons up to five in the present study. The emergence of multi-photon processes is attributed to collisional cooling in the presence of a buffer helium gas in the trap, which competes with size-dependent dissociation rates.
