Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an overall term that comprises a number of related pathologies, these include peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, coronary heart disease (CHD), venous thromboembolism, and rheumatic and congenital heart diseases. Fatty acids in the diet have been reported to affect CVD. The OPG/RANKL/RANK system appears to have a role in CVD outcomes. However, there have been few studies on the impact of diet-gene interaction for effects of fatty acids consumption on the OPG/RANKL/RANK system in CVD. This review focuses on the effects of fatty acids on OPG/RANKL/RANK in CVD.

Triacylglycerol (TAG) is a major component of plant-neutral lipids. Diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2) plays an important role in plant oil accumulation by catalyzing the final step of the Kennedy pathway. In this study, ten DGAT2 sequences were originating from different oil crops into the TAG-deficient yeast strain H1246, to compare their enzyme activity of oil synthesis and filter out potential amino acid residue sites for directed evolution.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) is a biodegradable polymer that belongs to a group of polymers called polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHB can be synthesized from renewable resources, making it a promising alternative to petroleum-derived plastics. It is also considered non-toxic, biodegradable, and biocompatible, which makes it suitable for various applications in the medicine and biomedicine.

Free fatty acids (FFAs) are important energy sources and significant for energy transport in the body. They also play a crucial role in cellular oxidative stress responses, following cell membrane depolarization, making accurate quantification of FFAs essential. This study presents a novel supercritical fluid chromatography-mass spectrometry (SFC-MS) method using selected ion recording in negative electrospray ionization mode, enabling rapid quantification of 31 FFAs within 6 min without derivatization.

BK polyomavirus remains a vexing issue in kidney transplantation. There are no antiviral drugs, and solely reducing immunosuppression is recommended for management. However, evidence from randomized controlled studies lacks defining clearance of BK polyomavirus-DNAemia and/or nephropathy as a primary outcome.
