Background: Shorter courses of antibiotic therapy are increasingly recommended to reduce antibiotic exposure. However quantifying the real-world impact of duration of therapy is hindered by bias common in observational studies. We aimed to evaluate the harms and benefits of longer versus shorter duration of therapy in older adults.

Silicone rubber (SiR) has a wide range of medical applications, but it lacks antimicrobial properties, leading to potential infection issues with related implants or medical devices. Most studies focus on adding anti-bacterial agents or surface modification, which usually result in composites with anti-bacterial properties, rather than synthesizing SiR with intrinsically antimicrobial performances. To tackle this issue, a double substituted bornyl-siloxane crosslinker (BC) is designed.

Melanoma poses a significant challenge to patients due to its aggressive nature and limited treatment options. Recent studies have suggested that lasalocid, a feed additive ionophore antibiotic, may have potential as an anticancer agent. However, the mechanism of lasalocid in melanoma is unclear.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is associated with significant human and financial costs, particularly among vulnerable populations like older adults living in long-term care homes (LTCHs). Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the leading indication for antibiotic use in this population, with some estimates suggesting that up to 70% of these prescriptions may be avoidable.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop and test novel behavioural science-informed antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) quality improvement strategies in Canadian LTCHs, which aim to decrease unnecessary testing and treatment for residents who lack the minimum clinical signs and symptoms of UTI.

Background And Objective: Transesophageal endosonography, including endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) and endoscopic ultrasound with bronchoscope-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-B-FNA), has been applied to the diagnosis of benign as well as malignant diseases. This narrative review summarizes the recent use of EUS-(B)-FNA in diagnosing sarcoidosis.
Methods: A comprehensive and systematic online literature search of PubMed was conducted using the keywords ("sarcoidosis"), and ("EUS" OR "EUS-FNA" OR "EUS-B" OR "EUS-B-FNA" OR "endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration" OR "endoscopic ultrasound using the EBUS scope guided fine needle aspiration" OR "endoscopic ultrasound using the EBUS bronchoscope" OR "transesophageal" OR "transesophageal endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration" OR "transesophageal bronchoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration").
