A visible light mediated De Mayo reaction between 1,3-diketones and styrenes following a [2+2] cycloaddition pathway via a photosensitization mechanism gives access to 1,5-diketones. The reaction has been applied to substituted styrenes and aryl- and alkyl-substituted ketones. Moreover, the method converts β-ketoesters, β-amido esters, and β-cyano ketones. Seven membered rings, a frequent structural motif of natural products, are also accessible using this methodology.

There is an increasing need for biomarkers of senescent cell burden to facilitate the selection of participants for clinical trials. p16 is encoded by the CDKN2A locus, which produces five variant transcripts in humans, two of which encode homologous p16 proteins: p16, encoded by p16_variant 1, and p16ɣ, encoded by p16_variant 5. While distinct quantitative polymerase chain reaction primers can be designed for p16_variant 5, primers for p16_variant 1 also measure p16_variant 5 (p16_variant 1 + 5).

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of Almonertinib in in patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation-positive residual ground-glass opacities following resection of stage I lung cancer.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 75 patients with EGFR mutation-positive residual ground-glass opacities post-stage I lung cancer surgery was conducted at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital between January 2021 and December 2023. Patients were categorized into the control group (CG, n = 33, treated with pemetrexed and cisplatin) and the observation group (OG, n = 42, treated with Almonertinib).

Importance: Eligibility criteria for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are designed to select clinically relevant patient populations. However, not all eligibility criteria are strongly justified, potentially excluding marginalized groups, and limiting the generalizability of trial findings.
Objective: To summarize and evaluate the justification of exclusion criteria in published RCTs in critical care medicine.

Introduction: The use of corticosteroid injections for short-term pain relief for knee osteoarthritis can have deleterious adverse effects. Amniotic tissue has shown promise in vitro; therefore, this study compared a morcellized injectable amniotic tissue allograft to corticosteroid injection.
Methods: Eighty-one patients with symptomatic severe knee osteoarthritis (Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 to 4) were prospectively randomized to either a double-blinded single injection of BioDRestore (Integra LifeSciences; n = 39) or triamcinolone acetonide (n = 42).

BACKGROUND The bacterial organism Capnocytophaga canimorsus is an oral commensal of cats and dogs and can cause life-threatening infections like mycotic aneurysm, meningitis, and sepsis. Mycotic aneurysms occur when microbial infections cause arterial wall degeneration. Difficulty in diagnosing Capnocytophaga canimorsus infection can occur due to the bacteria's fastidious nature and laboratory testing limitations, contributing to the infection's high morbidity and mortality.
