Manipulating Trimetal Catalytic Activities for Efficient Urea Electrooxidation-Coupled Hydrogen Production at Ampere-Level Current Densities.

ACS Nano

December 2024

National Center for International Research on Photoelectric and Energy Materials, Yunnan Key Laboratory for Micro/Nano Materials & Technology, School of Materials and Energy, Yunnan University, Kunming 650091, China.

Replacing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with the urea oxidation reaction (UOR) in conjunction with the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) offers a feasible and environmentally friendly approach for handling urea-rich wastewater and generating energy-saving hydrogen. However, the deactivation and detachment of active sites in powder electrocatalysts reported hitherto present significant challenges to achieving high efficiency and sustainability in energy-saving hydrogen production. Herein, a self-supported bimetallic nickel manganese metal-organic framework (NiMn-MOF) nanosheet and its derived heterostructure composed of NiMn-MOF decorated with ultrafine Pt nanocrystals (Pt/NiMn-MOF) are rationally designed.

Unraveling the Cleavage Reaction of Hydroxylamines with Cyclopropenones Considering Biocompatibility.

J Am Chem Soc

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Biomedical Polymers of Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, The Institute of Molecular Medicine Medicine, Wuhan University People's Hospital, Hubei Province Key Laboratory of Allergy and Immunology, Wuhan University, Wuhan, Hubei 430072, China.

We develop a latent biocompatible cleavage reaction involving the hitherto unexplored interaction between hydroxylamines and cyclopropenones. Our study addresses the regioselectivity challenges commonly observed in asymmetric cyclopropenone transformations, substantiated by variations in substrate, Density Functional Theory calculations, and NMR analysis. This reaction is characterized by high efficiency, broad substrate scope, stability, latent biocompatibility, and mild reaction conditions.

Microneedling and 5-Fluorouracil in Treating Stable Vitiligo in Hitherto Unstudied High Prevalence Population.

Indian J Dermatol

October 2024

From the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, Leprosy - Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

Article Synopsis
  • Vitiligo is a skin condition that affects about 0.25% of the Indian population, with higher prevalence in certain areas, leading to significant psychological issues such as depression due to social stigma.* -
  • An interventional study analyzed the effects of microneedling combined with 5% 5-fluorouracil treatment on stable vitiligo patches, involving 30 participants over 12 sessions from 2019 to 2021.* -
  • Results showed that 56% of participants achieved excellent or very good repigmentation, averaging a 54% improvement after about 4 months of treatment, with manageable side effects.*

Adding Mandarin Peel Waste to a Biodegradable Polymeric Matrix: Reinforcement or Degradation Effect?

Polymers (Basel)

November 2024

INSTM Research Unit, Department of Engineering, University of Palermo, V. le delle Scienze, 90128 Palermo, Italy.

In the current context, the use of fillers derived from fruit and vegetable waste is a crucial approach to mitigate waste and promote sustainable resource use, thus contributing to product life cycle completion and the achievement of sustainability goals. This study focuses on incorporating an endemic waste hitherto considered irrelevant within a biodegradable matrix. The resulting biocomposites were carefully characterized mechanically, rheologically, and morphologically to identify the connections between processability, structure, and properties.

Synthesizing ordered polar patterns in nonpolar SrTiO nanofilms via wrinkle-induced flexoelectricity.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Strength and Vibration of Mechanical Structures, School of Aerospace Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, China.

Ordered polar structures in oxide nanofilms play a pivotal role in the development of nanoelectronic applications. Hitherto, ordered polar structures have been restricted to a limited number of ferroelectric materials, and there is no effective scheme to induce and manipulate ordered polar patterns in centrosymmetric nonpolar nanofilms due to the absence of spontaneous symmetry breaking. Here, we circumvent these limitations by utilizing the wrinkle-induced strain gradient modulation associated with flexoelectricity as a general means of inducing and manipulating ordered polar patterns in nonpolar nanofilms.
