Introduction: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is performed to improve quality of life and to reduce cardiac-related mortality and morbidity in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of the present observational study was to assess the performance of a new suture material (Optilene) for anastomosis construction in CABG surgery using a routine clinical procedure. Performance was assessed using the incidence of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE).

Methods: The study was designed as an international, multi-centre, prospective cohort study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new non-absorbable monofilament for CABG surgery compared to data published in a previous meta-analysis. Optilene suture was used to create the distal and proximal coronary artery anastomoses. The primary endpoint was the cumulative MACCE rate up to discharge. Secondary parameters were intraoperative handling of the suture material and QoL up to 3 months after surgery. Patients were examined 30 days and 3 months postoperatively.

Results: In total, 199 patients were enrolled in 3 centres in Europe. The cumulative CABG adverse event rate up to the day of discharge was 3%, in contrast to the 8.46% given by the data generated by Nalysnyk et al. A -test showed that our CABG rate was significantly lower. QoL significantly increased from preoperatively until 3 months after surgery. Ease of handling the suture material was rated as very good.

Conclusion: Optilene suture material represents a safe and effective alternative to existing sutures used in CABG surgery for anastomosis construction.

Purpose: To evaluate access site adverse events following ClotTriever-mediated large-bore mechanical thrombectomy via small upper extremity deep veins (< 6-mm).

Materials And Methods: Twenty patients, including 24 upper extremity venous access sites, underwent ClotTriever-mediated large-bore thrombectomy of the upper extremity and thoracic central veins for symptomatic deep vein obstruction unresponsive to anticoagulation. Patients without follow-up venous duplex examinations (n = 3) were excluded.

Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. Electronic address:

Introduction: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the miniplate application sites in the maxilla and the applied force vector changes during skeletally supported facemask application in adolescent patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) using finite element model (FEM) analysis.

Methods: A FEM was obtained from a cone-beam computed tomography image of a 12-year-old female patient with UCLP. Miniplates were placed on 3 different sites of the maxilla; 500 g of advancement force was applied bilaterally, parallel (0°), and downward (-30°) to the occlusal plane.

A tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) represents a condition characterized by abnormal communication between the gastrointestinal tract and the airways. Although the current gold-standard treatment is surgery, pre-existing clinical conditions may represent contraindications. We therefore propose a bronchoscopic approach through rigid bronchoscopy without tracheostomy for total repair in patients suffering from benign tracheoesophageal fistulas.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a widely utilized synthetic polymer, favored in various applications for its desirable physicochemical characteristics and widespread accessibility. However, its extensive utilization, coupled with improper waste disposal, has led to the alarming pollution of the environment. Thus, recycling PET products is essential for diminishing global pollution and turning waste into meaningful materials.

IS ESG EFFECTIVE IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY AND ASSOCIATEDCOMORBIDITIES?: Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is more effective than lifestyle modifications alone for weight loss and improving obesity-related comorbidities. While it has less effect on weight loss compared to Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) in the short to medium term, it offers similar comorbidities resolution to LSG. IS ESG A SAFE PROCEDURE, AND WHAT ARE ITS RISKS?: The safety profile of ESG is consistently supported in the literature.
