causes cat scratch disease and several other clinical entities. Infections with are frequently occurring; however, the infection is only rarely diagnosed, mainly due to a lack of knowledge in the medical community. Microscopic immunofluorescence assays (IFA) are widely used for the serodiagnosis of infections but are laborious and time-consuming, and interpretation is subjective. An easy and reliable method for the serological diagnosis of infections is needed to overcome the shortcomings of the current IFA. Here, we report the development of an ELISA detecting human anti- antibodies from serum samples. By separating the water-insoluble fraction of Houston-1 via ion-exchange chromatography, 16 subfractions were generated and tested for immunoreactivity via line blotting. One particular fraction (fraction 24) was selected and spotted on ELISA plates using an industrial production platform. By use of well-characterized human sera from the strictly quality-controlled serum library of the German National Consiliary Laboratory for infections, the sensitivity of this ELISA was 100% for PCR-proven infections and 76% for clinically suspected infections at a specificity of 93%. This ELISA is therefore a reliable high-throughput method allowing the serodiagnosis of infections.

Strongylus vulgaris, a devastating parasitic nematode in equids, causes life-threatening verminous aneurysms that are challenging to diagnose early. This study pioneered integrating nanotechnology into an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (i-ELISA) system to enhance the sensitivity and specificity for detecting S. vulgaris larval antigens in equine serum samples, with PCR confirmation of the species.

Background: Previously we identified a complex of non-structural protein (NS) 1 - Thrombin (NST) in dengue infected patients. Here, we investigated how the concentration of NS1 and NST differ in various dengue severity levels as well as their demographic and clinical features. Several comorbid (hypertension, diabetes, and chronic renal failure) often found in dengue patients were also measured and analyzed.

The three members of the genus capripoxvirus (CaPV), lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), sheeppox virus (SPPV), and goatpox virus (GTPV) have common hosts and areas of overlapping geographical distribution with Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV). Hence, to ensure more cost-effective disease surveillance we developed and evaluated a Luminex assay for the simultaneous detection of antibodies against CaPV and RVFV in domestic ruminants. In cattle, the assay had a sensitivity (Se) of 98.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multi-organ autoimmune disorder that is treated by immunosuppressive agents that weaken the immune defense against opportunistic pathogens and latent infections such as strongyloidiasis. Herein, we report the case of a 43-year-old woman known to have systemic lupus erythematosus who presented with gastrointestinal symptoms, edema, and bone pain 2 months after receiving immunosuppressive treatment.

Case Presentation: A 43-year-old Iranian female known to have systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome presented with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and generalized edema.

Diagnosis of equine Lyme borreliosis (LB), an infection caused by members of the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex (Bbsl), is challenging due to the nonspecific clinical signs of the disease and due to the variety of non-standardized serological tests. Specific vaccine-induced antibodies against LB, providing an effective protection against the infection, complicate the issue further. The standard for the detection of specific antibodies against Bbsl is a two-tier test system based on an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFA) for antibody screening combined with a qualitative, highly specific immunoassay (e.
