Introduction: The purpose of this systematic literature review is to evaluate the benefit / risk ratio of mandibular symphyseal distraction osteogenesis.
Materials And Methods: Searches were made on Pubmed/Medline and Cochrane for randomized clinical trials and case series involving mandibular symphyseal distraction over the past 20 years with a patient sample greater than or equal to 10.
Results: Of the 92 articles, 25 met the inclusion criteria. A controlled trial was selected, but no randomized trial. The other studies were all case series, 16 retrospective and 8 prospective. Distractors with bone or hybrid anchorage appear to lead to more periodontal and infectious complications due to the buccal position of the jack. Most complications are benign. However, the most difficult event to deal with is distraction device fracture. Symphyseal midline distraction increases the transverse dimension efficiently, reliably and sustainably, and appears to have no demonstrated deleterious effects on the ATMs for the three types of distractors.
Discussion: Tooth-borne devices are recommended in most cases given their benefit / risk ratio. Furthermore, they do not require a second surgical procedure to remove them.
Conclusion: Mandibular symphyseal distraction osteogenesis is a reliable therapy whose exact limits and reproducibility remain to be defined by future prospective studies.

Background: Health systems are increasingly offering patient portals as tools for patients to access their health information with the goal of improving engagement in care. However, understanding health care providers' perspectives on patient portal implementation is crucial.
Objective: This study aimed to understand health care providers' experiences of implementing the MyChart patient portal, perspectives about its impact on patient care, clinical practice, and workload, and opportunities for improvement.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) burden is strongly associated with an increased risk of stroke, which, in most cases, can be prevented through earlier detection of AF and the timely initiation of anticoagulation therapy. Smartphone devices can provide a simple, non-invasive, cost-effective early AF detection solution. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched for studies comparing smartphone-based photoplethysmography (PPG) with standard electrocardiogram for AF detection.

Importance: Ultraprocessed foods (UPF), characterized as shelf-stable but nutritionally imbalanced foods, pose a public health crisis worldwide. In adults, UPF consumption is associated with increased obesity risk, but findings among children are inconsistent.
Objectives: To examine the associations among UPF intake, anthropometric adiposity indicators, and obesity status in Canadian children.

Background: Behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) can complicate acute hospital care, but evidence on BPSD in this setting is heterogeneous.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of BPSD in acute hospitals and explore related risk factors, treatments, and outcomes (PROSPERO: CRD42023406294).
Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis by searching Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO for studies on BPSD prevalence among older people with dementia during their acute hospital admissions (up to 5 March 2024).

Objectives: Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency, with a profound healthcare burden globally. Its pathophysiology is complex, heterogeneous and temporally dynamic, making diagnosis challenging. Medical management is predicated on early diagnosis and timely intervention.
