Objective: To determinate the role of lifestyle factors, recent diet, menstrual factors, and reproductive history in age at natural menopause in adult Spanish women.
Methods: In total, 12 562 pre-menopausal women were available for analysis from the EPIC-Spain sub-cohort. Women were recruited between 1992 and 1996 in five regions of Spain (Asturias, Granada, Murcia, Navarra, and San Sebastian) and, for these analyses, were followed for 3 years. Questionnaires on diet, lifestyle, anthropometric measurements, and reproductive and exogenous hormones history were collected at baseline. Menopause status was updated at a median of 3 years of follow-up.
Results: After a median of 3 years of follow-up 1166 women became postmenopausal. An earlier age at menopause was observed in current smokers (HR: 1.29; 95%CI 1.08-1.55) and in non-users of oral contraceptives (HR: 1.32; 95%CI 1.01-1.57). A later age at menopause was observed in women with irregular menses (HR: 0.71; 95%CI 0.56-0.91) and in women with a higher number of pregnancies (HR: 0.74; 95%CI 0.56-0.94).
Conclusions: Our results confirm that women who smoked had an earlier age at natural menopause, while use of oral contraceptives, higher number of pregnancies, and irregularity of menses were associated with a prolonged reproductive lifespan. No associations were observed for dietary habits assessed after the age of 40 years.

In addition to non-pharmaceutical interventions, antiviral drugs and vaccination are considered as the optimal solutions to control and eliminate the COVID-19 pandemic. It is necessary to couple within-host and between-host models to investigate the impact of treatment and vaccination. Hence, we propose an age-structured model, where the infection age is used to link the within-host viral dynamics and the disease dynamics at the population level.

Objective: Reproductive history may help identify women at higher risk for experiencing menopausal symptoms. We hypothesized that gestation length and offspring birthweight for gestational age z-scores would be associated with menopausal symptoms and age at natural menopause in midlife among women in a longitudinal prebirth cohort.
Methods: Among 691 women enrolled in pregnancy and followed to midlife, we examined associations of gestation length and offspring birthweight for gestational age z-score at the index pregnancy with total menopausal symptoms assessed with the 11-item Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) using linear regression models, with individual menopausal symptoms using binomial regression models with a log link function, and with age at natural menopause using Cox proportional hazards models.

Background: The association between tea consumption and mortality among very elderly individuals, with or without cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CCD), including stroke, remains unclear. This study hypothesised that a significant association exists.
Methods: We analysed data from two waves of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), spanning 1998/2000 to 2018, with a maximum follow-up of 20 years.

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term effects of implantable collamer lens (ICL) V4c on the biomechanical and morphological properties of crystalline lenses in Chinese adults with high myopia using Brillouin microscopy (BM).
Methods: In this case-control study, 102 highly myopic eyes from 102 patients (18-48 years, preoperative spherical equivalent (SE): -6.00--21.

Ribonucleoprotein (RNP)-based CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing holds great potential for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV), which however, is challenged by the lack of efficient cytosolic protein delivery tools. Herein, reversibly-phosphorylated pro-proteins (P-proteins) with conjugated adenosine triphosphate (ATP) tags are engineered and coupled with a membrane-penetrating, guanidine-enriched, α-helical polypeptide (GP) to mediate robust and universal cytosolic delivery. GP forms salt-stable nanocomplexes (NCs) with P-proteins via electrostatic interaction and salt bridging, and the helix-assisted, strong membrane activities of GP enabled efficient cellular internalization and endolysosomal escape of NCs.
