A three-phase culture system combining blue (465 nm) light-emitting diode (LED) wavelength as the first phase, green (550 nm) as the second phase, and temperature stress as the third phase was applied to a Nannochloropsis oceanica culture in 14-L photobioreactors. Microalgal growth promotion parameters were optimized in the first phase, followed by green LED stress for lipid production in the second phase. Maximum biomass and lipid production values of 0.75 gdcw L and 57.6% (w/w) were obtained at an aeration rate of 0.50 vvm, with a light intensity of 250 µmol m s and 24:0 h light/dark cycle. Culture temperatures of 15, 10 and 5 °C were applied in the third phase, where temperature stress induced the production of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acid synthesis in N. oceanica. The production of α-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid increased by 52% (w/w), 96% (w/w), and 77% (w/w), respectively, at 5 °C in the third phase.

Uncontrollable non-compressible hemorrhage and traumatic infection have been major causes of mortality and disability in both civilian and military populations. A dressing designed for point-of-care control of non-compressible hemorrhage and prevention of traumatic infections represents an urgent medical need. Here, a novel self-gelling sponge OHN@ε-pL is developed, integrating N-succinimidyl ester oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHN) and ε-poly-L-lysine (ε-pL).

Utilizing innovative methods to advance the research and development (R&D) of health products and enhance their accessibility has become crucial to achieving universal health coverage, addressing public health emergencies, and promoting population health and wellbeing. However, structural contradictions do exist in the supply and demand of health products in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). With the joint support of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Ministry of Education, and the China-ASEAN Center, Peking University established the China-ASEAN Science and Technology Cooperation Center for Public Health in April 2023.

Background: Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a common cosmetic concern, often leading to significant psychological distress for the patients. With the widespread application of lasers including ablative fractional resurfacing (AFR) with a 10,600 nm CO laser, PIH caused by lasers is becoming increasingly common. But due to the absence of an appropriate animal research model, our understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms and preventive strategies for PIH remains limited.
