Reported is the asymmetric propargylic substitution (APS) reaction of 5H-thiazol-4-ones using a Cu/Zn dual metal catalytic system and the APS reaction of 5H-oxazol-4-ones using a Cu/Ti catalytic system. These reactions furnish functional-group-rich, terminal-alkyne-containing products with two vicinal stereocenters in high yields and with good to excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. This study demonstrates the use of dual metal catalytic systems as a viable approach to improve the selectivity profiles of the copper-catalyzed APS reactions.

A series of hydrophilic copolymers were prepared using 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and itaconic acid (IA) from free radical polymerization at different feed monomer ratios using ammonium persulfate (APS) initiators in water at 70 °C. The herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) was grafted to Poly(HEMA--IA) by a condensation reaction. The hydrolysis of the polymeric release system, Poly(HEMA--IA)-2,4-D, demonstrated that the release of the herbicide in an aqueous phase depends on the polymeric system's pH value and hydrophilic character.

Plant polysaccharides are effective components that widely present in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), exhibiting rich biological activities. However, as most plant polysaccharides cannot be directly absorbed and utilized by the human digestive system, it is now believed that their mode of action mainly involves interaction with intestinal microbiota, leading to the production of functional small molecules. The efficacy of Astragalus polysaccharide(APS) is extensive, including weight loss, improvement of fatty liver, reduction of blood lipids, and enhancement of insulin sensitivity, which may also be related to the regulation of intestinal microbiota.
