This study was performed to determine the effect of the addition of L. essential oil (EO) (at 0.01% v/v) and of the packaging material (brown and transparent glass or PET) on the oxidative stability of Algerian extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) stored for 90 days at 25 ± 2 °C under continuous exposure to fluorescent light (~ 900 lux). Control and enriched EVOO was analysed after 30, 60 and 90 days for various parameters. Bio-enrichment of EVOO with EO combined with packaging in brown glass enabled maintenance of the highest amounts of chlorophyll and carotenoids after 90 days of accelerated photo-oxidation. The lowest total phenols content was found in EVOO without EO packed in transparent glass. EO enrichment and brown packaging preserved higher levels of antioxidant activity but could not preserve the oxidation indices until the end of the period of light exposition.

In recent years, the use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of cancer has received widespread attention. Treatment of tumors using TCM can effectively reduce the side effects of anti-tumor drugs, meanwhile to improve the treatment efficacy of patients. However, most of the active ingredients in TCM, such as saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, volatile oils, etc.

The effect of essential oils (EOs) of 22 species and varieties of essential oil plants on the mental performance of elderly people when they inhaled air containing EOs in a gaseous state at a concentration of 1 mg/m3 of air was studied. For the study, a word recognition test with missing letters and a proofreading test were used. It has been established that recognition of words with missing letters is stimulated for a short (10-20 min) duration of exposure to EOs, and then the effect fades away.

Background/aim: Low levels of vitamin D are a widespread global issue. This study aimed to determine the optimal vitamin D3 supplementation dose for healthy young adults by comparing the effectiveness of gradually increasing cholecalciferol doses over two years.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-five volunteers participated in a two-season pilot study conducted from October to April to avoid sunlight-induced vitamin D3 synthesis.

Accurately determining the initial acoustic field excitation load of a piezoelectric ultrasonic probe is essential for simulating electrical signals and calculating wall thickness during ultrasonic internal inspection of pipelines. A new method for determining the initial excitation load of the acoustic field is proposed, incorporating the focusing effect of the curved surface of pipelines on the ultrasonic signal from the piezoelectric ultrasonic probe. Finite element models were established for the new and old methods using COMSOL software, facilitating the analysis of the initial acoustic field distribution and associated electrical signal characteristics.
