Can ACR TI-RADS predict the malignant risk of medullary thyroid cancer?

J Clin Transl Endocrinol

March 2025

Department of Ultrasound, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200072, PR China.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance for medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) based on the 2017 Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System by the American College of Radiology (ACR TI-RADS) guideline, and the ability to recommend fine needle aspiration (FNA) for MTC.

Methods: Fifty-six MTCs were included, and 168 benign thyroid nodules (BTNs) and 168 papillary thyroid nodules (PTCs) were matched according to age. Ultrasound (US) features were reviewed according to ACR TI-RADS.

Diffusion models, variational autoencoders, and generative adversarial networks (GANs) are three common types of generative artificial intelligence models for image generation. Among these, GANs are the most frequently used for medical image generation and are often employed for data augmentation in various studies. However, due to the adversarial nature of GANs, where the generator and discriminator compete against each other, the training process can sometimes end with the model unable to generate meaningful images or even producing noise.

The differentiation between benign and malignant brain lesions remains a fundamental challenge in modern neuroimaging. This case highlights a rare presentation of ectatic Virchow-Robin spaces (VRS), which mimicked tumefactive brain lesions and required a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to exclude neoplastic, infectious, and inflammatory processes. A 37-year-old female presented with progressive headache, cognitive impairment, and facial pain.

The disease affects the optic nerve and represents the principle reasons of irreversible vision loss, mostly asymptomatic and uncontrolled. Consequently, early and accurate diagnosis is critical to prevent or reduce its effect, however, conventional diagnostic techniques often fail to provide concrete results. In this regard, we present a new approach built on Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) and MobileNetV2 pretrained architecture for diagnosing glaucoma.

The increasing demand for soft robotic systems in agricultural, biomedical and other applications has driven the development of actuators that can mimic the flexibility and adaptability of human muscles. Several studies have explored the design and implementation of soft actuators for robotic applications, however, there is a need for soft actuators demonstrating delicate gripping capabilities but also excel in specific biomedical applications, such as therapeutic massaging. The objective of this work is to develop a multi-finger soft pneumatic actuator mimicking human fingers for Ayurvedic therapeutic massaging and gripping applications.
