are nonmotile, filamentous, Gram-positive bacteria that cause actinomycosis in immunodeficiency patients. Although the prognosis of actinomycosis is good, the diagnosis of actinomycosis is quite difficult. Recent studies on actinomycosis have shown that play an important role in various biological and clinical processes, such as the formation of dental plaque and the degradation of organics in the gastrointestinal tract. Here, the distribution of in the digestive tract, and different biological effects of actinomycosis, and its clinical association with inflammatory diseases are discussed. Furthermore, an overview of the most commonly used treatment methods and drugs used to treat infected alimentary canal diseases is presented.

Article Synopsis
  • Pulmonary actinomycosis is a rare lung infection caused by the bacterium Actinomyces and is often misdiagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis or lung cancer due to its uncommon pulmonary presence.
  • Endobronchial actinomycosis, where the infection occurs in the bronchial tubes, is very rare, and there have been instances of broncholithiasis (calcium stones in the bronchial tubes) linked to it.
  • A case study of a 50-year-old male presenting with cough and hemoptysis (coughing up blood) revealed he had endobronchial actinomycosis with broncholithiasis, confirmed through a transbronchial biopsy.

Introduction: Progressive anosmia, unlike sudden-onset viral or traumatic anosmia, requires endoscopic screening for nasal polyps. In the absence of polyposis, radiological work-up should diagnose and treat any curable pathology. Here, we report the case of a patient treated for olfactory cleft actinomycosis.

Actinomycosis is a rare bacterial infection characterized by nonspecific clinical and radiological manifestations. It often presents in cervicofacial, abdominopelvic, and thoracopulmonary forms, with cervicofacial being the most common. The extensive differential diagnosis and vague clinical and radiological features contribute to diagnostic challenges.
