Andrographolide was subjected to degradation under acidic and basic conditions. Three degradation products including two novel compounds, 8,9-didehydroandrographolide (AG-A) and 15-seco-andrographolide (AG-B2), and a known product, 14-deoxy-11,12-didehydroandrographolide (AG-B1), were isolated by chromatography and identified on the basis of their NMR and MS data. The degradation product, AG-A, may result from the isomerization of andrographolide under acidic conditions whereas the base degradation products, AG-B1 and AG-B2, were formed most likely due to the dehydration of allyl alcohol and the hydrolysis of andrographolide at the lactone ring, respectively.

Significant progress has been made in cancer therapy with protein-based nanocarriers targeted directly to surface receptors for drug delivery. The nanocarriers are a potentially effective solution for the potential drawbacks of traditional chemotherapy, such as lack of specificity, side effects, and development resistance. Peptides as nanocarriers have been designed based on their biocompatible, biodegradable, and versatile functions to deliver therapeutic agents into cancer cells, reduce systemic toxicity, and maximize therapy efficacy through utilizing targeted ligands such as antibodies, amino acids, vitamins, and other small molecules onto protein-based nanocarriers and thus ensuring that drugs selectively accumulate in the cancer cells instead of healthy organs/drug release at a target site without effects on normal cells, which inherently caused less systemic toxicity/off-target effect.

We show that differences in circulating androgens between the three male mating morphs in ruff sandpipers are linked to 17-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 2 (HSD17B2), encoded by a gene within the supergene that determines the morphs. Low-testosterone males had higher expression in blood than high-testosterone males, as well as in brain areas related to social behaviors and testosterone production.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are among the most abundant types of non-coding RNAs in the genome and exhibit particularly high expression levels in the brain, where they play crucial roles in various neurophysiological and neuropathological processes. Although ischemic stroke is a complex multifactorial disease, the involvement of brain-derived lncRNAs in its intricate regulatory networks remains inadequately understood. In this study, we established a cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury model using middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in male Sprague-Dawley rats.

The gram-negative, facultative anaerobic bacterium Morganella morganii is linked to a number of illnesses, including nosocomial infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs). A clinical isolate from a UTI patient in Bangladesh was subjected to high-throughput whole genome sequencing and extensive bioinformatics analysis in order to gather knowledge about the genomic basis of bacterial defenses and pathogenicity in M. morganii.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y27632 on bioenergetic capacity and resilience of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) under metabolic stress.
Methods: Bovine CECs (BCECs) were treated with Y27632 and subjected to bioenergetic profiling using the Seahorse XFp Analyzer. The effects on adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production through oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis were measured.
