Endovascular treatment of malignant intrahepatic inferior vena cava stenosis involves venoplasty and stenting. Intravascular migration is a complication associated with stents. This technical report describes the retrieval of migrated intracardiac Gianturco Z-stents using rigid endobronchial forceps.

Hepatic caval stenosis is managed with stenting; however, stent placement can be complicated by migration, which can be life-threatening. The risk of migration can be mitigated by increasing the length of the stent, which increases contact with the vessel wall. We describe the cases of three patients with hepatic caval stenosis treated with two Z-stents sutured together.

Rationale And Objectives: Malignant obstruction of the IVC can cause severe morbidity and impairment of quality of life in end-stage oncology patients. However, medical literature regarding minimally-invasive palliation using large diameter percutaneous stents, particularly the Gianturco-Rosch-Z (GRZ) stent is limited.

Materials & Methods: A retrospective review from January 2004 to February 2017, revealed 17 subjects with malignant obstruction of the IVC who were treated with a total of 34 GRZ stents.

Purpose: To determine if stent placement across the renal vein inflow affects kidney function and renal vein patency.

Methods: Between June 2008 and September 2016, 93 patients (mean age 39 years, range 15-70; 54 women) with iliocaval occlusion underwent venous stent placement and were retrospectively reviewed. For this analysis, the patients were separated into treatment and control groups: 51 (55%) patients had suprarenal and infrarenal iliocaval venous disease requiring inferior vena cava stent reconstruction across the renal vein inflow (treatment group) and 42 (45%) patients had iliac vein stenting sparing the renal veins (control group).
