Case: We describe 2 cases of proximal femoral deformity due to fibrous dysplasia that were corrected with osteotomies and a novel combined construct with a blade plate and a retrograde intramedullary nail.

Conclusion: A single-stage procedure using a combined construct with a blade plate and a retrograde intramedullary nail is a viable option for correcting and subsequently preventing proximal femoral deformities due to fibrous dysplasia.

Femur osteoid osteoma in children: are there location-dependent differences in MRI findings?

Pediatr Radiol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA, 19104, USA.

Background: Osteoid osteomas are most commonly found in the femur and preferentially affect the pediatric population. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of femoral osteoid osteomas are not well described.

Objective: To systematically characterize pretreatment MRI findings of clinically confirmed femur osteoid osteomas in children and determine location-dependent differences.

A woman in her 50s presented with a 1-year history of left hip pain that increased over the past 2 weeks. The pain began following a low-energy fall. During the 1-year period, she had multiple lesions in the thigh and gluteal region, which were surgically excised.

Background: The influence of advanced imaging modalities on the reliability of 2018 AO/OTA classification and detection of features contributing to fracture instability have not been adequately studied in the literature.

Methods: This prospective study was conducted to assess the reliability of 2018 AO/OTA classification for trochanteric femoral fractures, and features of instability in 50 patients using radiographs, multiplanar reformats (MPR), and 3D-reconstruction with fracture segmentation (3DR-FS) by 3 observers on 2 occasions at an interval of 4 weeks.

Results: Mean inter-observer reliabilities on radiographs, MPR, 3DR-FS were 0.

Background: Heterozygous TRPV4 mutations cause a group of skeletal dysplasias characterized by short stature, short trunk, and skeletal deformities.

Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the natural history of clinical and radiologic features of patients with different TRPV4-related skeletal dysplasias.

Materials And Methods: Thirteen patients with a mutation in TRPV4 were included in the study, and 11 were followed for a median of 6.

Purpose: Previous studies have shown that subtrochanteric femoral fractures treated with intramedullary nails might lead to varus-procurvatum malalignment. Similar results have been reported when using antegrade intramedullary lengthening nails (ILNs). The purpose of our study is to examine if antegrade telescoping intramedullary lengthening nails lead to varus-procurvatum malalignment of the proximal femur and what are possible predictors of that shift.
