In this review, we describe the research trends of hybrid nanocarriers developed based on a biomimetic mineralization process, and their recent applications in imaging and therapy of cancers. Organic-inorganic hybrid nanostructures formed by diverse biomimetic mineralization approaches are briefly reviewed, and particularly, the biomedical applications of these hybrid nanocarriers for the diagnosis and therapy of cancers are discussed. Biomineralization is an important process in which living organisms produce biominerals, such as calcium phosphate (CaP), calcium carbonate (CaCO), and silica (SiO), to strengthen their tissues, as found in the formation of bone and teeth. Introducing the artificial biomimetic mineralization process to nanobiotechnology has inspired researchers to develop smart stimuli-responsive nanoparticles for multiple purposes, such as improved therapeutic activity and activatable imaging of cancers.

Background: Availability of amyloid modifying therapies will dramatically increase the need for disclosure of Alzheimer's disease (AD) related genetic and/or biomarker test results. The 21st Century Cares Act requires the immediate return of most medical test results, including AD biomarkers. A shortage of genetic counselors and dementia specialists already exists, thus driving the need for scalable methods to responsibly communicate test results.

Background: Cognitive dysfunction emerges as a manifestation of reduced estrogen levels following ovariectomy in an individual. However, the conventional use of estrogen replacement therapy could increase the risk of breast cancer and thromboembolism. Icariin is a natural compound that has been reported to be a neuroprotective agent against dementia.

Expressed CHRFAM7A, a human restricted gene with carrier frequency of 75% in the human population predicts profound translational significance.
Method: The physiological role of CHRFAM7A in human brain is explored using multiomics approach on 600 post mortem human brain tissue samples (ROSMAP).

Background: With the advent of FDA approved anti-amyloid therapy and recognition of increased side effects in APOE e4 carriers, APOE testing is now recommended for patients considering anti-amyloid therapies such as lecanemab. Given the therapeutic implications and anticipated volume of eligible patients, the traditional model of in-person, pre- and post-test genetic counseling is not feasible to incorporate in clinical pathways. Alternative delivery models, including digital tools and telehealth, will be key in providing APOE genetic counseling support.
