[Fe]-hydrogenase (Hmd) catalyzes the reversible hydrogenation of methenyltetrahydromethanopterin (methenyl-H MPT ) with H . Hmd contains the iron-guanylylpyridinol (FeGP) cofactor, which is sensitive to light and oxidative stress. A natural protection mechanism is reported for Hmd based on structural and biophysical data. Hmd from Methanothermobacter marburgensis (mHmd) was found in a hexameric state, where an expanded oligomerization loop is detached from the dimer core and intrudes into the active site of a neighboring dimer. An aspartic acid residue from the loop ligates to Fe of the FeGP cofactor and thus blocks the postulated H -binding site. In solution, this enzyme is in a hexamer-to-dimer equilibrium. Lower enzyme concentrations, and the presence of methenyl-H MPT , shift the equilibrium toward the active dimer side. At higher enzyme concentrations-as present in the cell-the enzyme is predominantly in the inactive hexameric state and is thereby protected against light and oxidative stress.

Kidney stones, a common urological disease, may involve the brain-kidney axis in their formation, though the specific mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of blue light on relevant metabolic indicators and oxidative stress status in rats with kidney stones through the brain-kidney axis. A rat model of kidney stones was established by administering 1% ethylene glycol and 2% ammonium chloride.

The construction of thin film heterostructures has been a widely successful archetype for fabricating materials with emergent physical properties. This strategy is of particular importance for the design of multilayer magnetic architectures in which direct interfacial spin-spin interactions between magnetic phases in dissimilar layers lead to emergent and controllable magnetic behavior. However, crystallographic incommensurability and atomic-scale interfacial disorder can severely limit the types of materials amenable to this strategy, as well as the performance of these systems.

Intermolecular oxidative N-N bond formation reactions are quite challenging and are largely uncharted. N-N linked dimeric indolosesquiterpene alkaloids represent an underexplored class of natural products, and strategies for direct dehydrogenative N-N bond formation are limited. Here, we have reported that a late-stage visible-light photoredox catalysis facilitates N-N bond formation, leading to the total syntheses of atropo-diastereomers dixiamycins A () and B ().

Rutin, a promising bioactive hydrophobic compound, suffers from poor physicochemical stability, resulting in low bioavailability. Herein, we used positively charged chitosan and negatively charged fucoidan as biopolymers coating rutin-nanoliposome (RNL) via electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly approach to prepare fucoidan/chitosan-coated rutin-nanoliposome (FC-RNL). The FC-RNL exhibited the encapsulation efficiency of 77.

Early life telomere length is thought to influence and predict an individual's fitness. It has been shown to vary significantly in early life compared to adulthood. Investigating the factors influencing telomere length in young individuals is therefore of particular interest, especially as the relative importance of heredity compared to post-natal conditions remains largely uncertain.
