Phylolink: phylogenetically-based profiling, visualisations and metrics for biodiversity.

Bioinformatics

Atlas of Living Australia, CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure, Canberra, ACT, Australia and.

Published: April 2019

Summary: Phylolink is a research collaboration toolkit through which biodiversity can be explored from a phylogenetic perspective. It is an update of PhyloJiVE that has been integrated into the framework of the Atlas of Living Australia, including its spatial portal. Phylolink connects phylogenetic tree nodes with species occurrence records, environmental data, and species trait information. Features new to Phylolink allow users to upload and download spatial datasets, store files and link to the ALA spatial portal, improve graphics and provide the novel ability to analyze environmental attributes of species and clades distributions. Species richness and phylogenetic diversity comparisons can be made among geographic areas. The result is a powerful way of combining data to generate flexible and customizable visualizations, profiles and metrics for biodiversity.

Availability And Implementation: Phylolink is available at the Atlas of Living Australia, http://phylolink.ala.org.au/. It works on any browser and users can select from a range of stored phylogenetic trees and spatial datasets, or upload their own.

Using a theoretical framework that underscores the social dimension of meaning-making processes, this study delved into the social representations of dementia in the Italian context and the personal meanings expressed by three distinct groups of participants. The study involved ninety-two episodic interviews with people living with dementia and those who had provided care as professionals or informal caregivers. The collected data underwent various types of analysis.

Introduction: Attitudes and beliefs guide our decision-making. In the educational context, prior research has noted the existence of prejudices and stereotypes among teachers that make it difficult to identify and care for gifted students. Stereotypes towards gifted students can hinder the identification and development of potential and the development of personality.

Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results from genetic susceptibility, gut microbiome, and environmental factors. Diet, one modifiable environmental factor, has been linked to the increased prevalence of IBD. This study aimed to evaluate a potential association between food deserts and disease severity at diagnosis.

Background: Caring for dying patients is associated with psychological trauma, strong emotions and enormous stress for nursing staff and nursing students who are reliable health care providers in such difficult situations. Nursing students involved in End-of -life care need to work through these emotions during clinical placements. This study explored the lived experiences of nursing students caring for the dying patients at Mulago national referral hospital.

Understanding cell destiny requires unraveling the intricate mechanism of gene regulation, where transcription factors (TFs) play a pivotal role. However, the actual contribution of TFs, that is TF activity, is not only determined by TF expression, but also accessibility of corresponding chromatin regions. Therefore, we introduce BIOTIC, an advanced Bayesian model with a well-established gene regulation structure that harnesses the power of single-cell multi-omics data to model the gene expression process under the control of regulatory elements, thereby defining the regulatory activity of TFs with variational inference.
