Background: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major risk for development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a frequent malignancy with a poor survival rate. HBV infection results in significant endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and activation of the unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling, a contributing factor to carcinogenesis. As part of the UPR, the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway is responsible for removing the burden of misfolded secretory proteins, to re-establish cellular homeostasis.

Liver cancer, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), stands out as one of the most formidable solid tumors, characterized by a dauntingly low survival rate. At the forefront of the tumor microenvironment (TME) orchestrating the initiation and advancement of HCC are cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). TGF-β, widely recognized as a potent activator of CAFs, not only regulates their activity but also assumes a pivotal role in the metastatic journey of the tumor.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous disease with a worse prognosis. Despite ongoing efforts, existing therapeutic approaches show limited success in improving early recurrence and survival outcomes for TNBC patients. Therefore, there is an urgent need to discover novel and targeted therapeutic strategies, particularly those focusing on the immune infiltrate in TNBC, to enhance diagnosis and prognosis for affected individuals.

Background: Central nervous system tumors are among the most lethal types of cancer. A critical factor for tailored neurosurgical resection strategies depends on specific tumor types. However, it is uncommon to have a preoperative tumor diagnosis, and intraoperative morphology-based diagnosis remains challenging.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disorder that can lead to right ventricular failure and severe consequences. Despite extensive efforts, limited progress has been made in preventing the progression of PAH. Mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in the development of PAH, but the key mitochondrial functional alterations in the pathogenesis have yet to be elucidated.
